HE onlookers pause and hold their breath in high anticipation of that which is to follow. Slowly the curtains part, and the directors ot the great drama are revealed to the straining, eager-eyed audience. Theirs are the minds that advance the prestige and glory of our Alma Diater, theirs the hands that lead and guide the young actors and actresses ever forward, that mould their characters into things of noble and fine sentiments, that aid them in forming those habits that are to carry them onward in their journey to success. They foster the ideals and the cherished hopes ot' VVebster High. They fulfill the unspoken dreams and wishes of its students. They are the ones who by their untiring efforts and accomplishments make such a drama of school life possible. Their wisdom and their knowledge they impart to the youth of today in preparation for all that the tomorrow will hold. They instill into their minds and souls a sense of honor, of loyalty, of truth, of brotherly love and devotion, of courage, ot obedience, of sportsmanship, of fealty, ot ambition and its fulhllment. Under their protection and their guidance the actors and actresses perform their part of the drama with ease and grace. The directorsl How essential they are to the school's improvement, how necessary toits growth, how vital to the education of the youth of today. Year by year they carry on, and through their efforts lofty edifices of learning rise proudly toward the clouds, and tender minds gain in wisdom and idealistic ambitions. Ever they dream of new worlds of wonder to rear for the students, new schools of art and learning to present to their minds thirsting for enlightenment. Their time and their strength they devote to the welfare of our Alma lwlater, willingly, unseltishly, seeing far ahead into the future, visualizing a perfect and magnificent school for their youthful actors. Quietly they work, and without boasting of the wonders they have accomplished and the obstacles they have conquered. To them the youth owes his future success, in them rests the fate of his life, by them he makes his way in the world contiding with a simple trust in their good- will and ever-watchful guidance. Theirs is the privilege of shaping the destiny of today's generation as they will, and to foster and further the growing ideals ofthe nation's great men and great women. Yvith wonder and admiration the onlookers pause and duly pay their respects.

Hlxsoxv Supu1'1'11f01zdw1! fy' Scfzoofm P1'z'm'1'paf Qf Hzzflfz Srlznvf HE administration and supervision of the Public School Systems of our country has come to be a major responsibility. Even in our own com- munity the public school population has more than doubled in the past ten years. Such a phenomenal growth has made tremendous demands on the Webster Groves Board of Education and its administrative ollicers. We are now approaching the time when we have adequate space for all the pupils who come to our doors. Since the housing problem is nearing solution we hope to lend our energies to promoting a program of instruction, guidance, and encouragement of pupils which will lead each individual to a realization of his utmost possibilities. We invite the co-operation of students, alumni, faculties, and patrons in carrying out our undertaking. Z The administration of Webster High School believes the course of study should be as broad as possible, that each student may find subjects that appeal to him and in which he is interested. When proper and satisfactory combina- tions have been found and certain adiustments made, success depends largely on the efforts put forth by the student. A few failures result from lack of men- tality, but the larger number is caused by lack of application. Too many want education to come without effort. Thinking is not popular with many students. It is seldom that a student fails who has worked faithfully and systematically. Study conditions are important and have much to do with success. Quiet surroundings are essential to real study, while excitement is most harmful. Let us reduce our failure list by hard, faithful study rather than by making requirements so easy that work is not necessary.
