Foreword . . . Multiply the hilarity and tenseness of a Student Council election campaign by its spirit of democracy and resulting sense of responsibility. Measure the volume of integrity and justice with the scales of applied truth. Divide athletic competitions into a given quantity of fair play and balance the quotient with eight vivacious cheerleaders. Compute the ratio of the gaiety of dances by the beauty of their queens and the prowess of their kings. Total up the dividends in terms of school spirit and lasting friend- ships. Subtract the physics experiments that wouldn't quite work out and those endless cafeteria lines. Estimate instead the percentage of knowledge ab- sorbed and the patience and consistent quality of cafeteria service. Count the teachers whose devotion. far exceeded the average in time and help- fulness. Add that all-pervading we dare to be different motto. Sum up the strides forward in scholarship, the Roman cenas, the dramatic productions, the initiations, the individuals and the groups who brought honors to WCS. IU . . . one who has given freely of her- self fo her sfudenfs, fo her family, and fo her community - we dedicafe the H60 Reveille. Mrs. Thomas, words can never express the respect and gratitude which your selfless deeds of encourage- ment have inspired in those whom you have so faith- fully served for a period of thirty-two years. Your constant willingness to help each and every student to do his individual best- has imbued us with a desire to progress to the full extent of our ability. Mathematics with you has never been a drudgery of mass production but rather a ceaseless striving for per- fection. Not content merely to meet arbitrary standards, you have chosen to go confidently beyond them. By your example you have taught us far more than a thousand text books. Nor has your influence stopped when the theorems were mastered and the equations solved. As you stretched our intellects, you have instilled in us the virtue of persistence and the desire for perfection in our every undertaking. How shall we ever forget your gentle admonition, Maybe next time you will do it correctly at the very first try. With a sage combin- ation of tact, humor, and philosophy, you have trans- formed those vague numbers and symbols into sound knowledge and mature understanding. Yet the only re- ward you have ever asked has been to see your students thinking for themselves and acting honorably. Your devotion to your family is legendary, as Mr. Thomas, your daughter, your sons, and your fond grand- children attest. With patience and wisdom your home was established, your children were reared, with love and understanding both bodies and minds were nur- tured. Still another facet of your service has been your contribution to the community. In addition to manifold responsibilities for Webster students, you have shoul- dered numerous other duties, as a matron in Eastern Star, as a member of Cornell Study Club, and as a will- ing worker in your church. These words will quickly be forgotten, but we will long remember the courage, the wisdom, and the vir- tues of the modest woman who has inspired them- Mrs. Grace M. Thomas. IN THE BOSOM OF HER FAMILY. Top Raw: Carlyle Chamberlain, Robert Thomas, Judith Thomas, Francis Thomas, jonathan Thomas.
