Abrams Mr. Clinton S. Ballard -an 'Db Mr. Stanley A. Martin As the Congress of the United States is elect- ed by the citizens of America to enact into law the will of the people, so the Board of Education of Webster High School is chosen by the voters of this district to carry out their wishes with re- gard to the education of their children. To the Board of Education, and through them to the citizens of Webster, we, the class Le I lo right: Mrs. L. Cornwall, Mrs. E. Lasher, Mrs. V. Berg, Mrs T. Van Alstyne, Mrs. A. Taber, Mrs. D. Elliott, Mrs. D. Abbott, Miss M. Harrison. Mr. Harold J. Brennan Mr. Irving T. Farnham President . I 2 Q Mrs. Mary H. Quinn Mr. john O. Thorpe of 1957, wish to express our appreciation for the wisdom and generosity with which they have provided for our educational needs and for those of future classes. Our able administrators, our devoted faculty, our enlarged and modernized buildings, all speak of a progressive Board of Education representing an enlightened community. Smooth operation is difficult in a school that is growing as rapidly as Webster Central. Never- theless, through the hard work and efficiency of our secretaries, days roll by without confusion or pandemonium. With so many jobs to do, such as keeping records, handling school linances, send- ing out thousands of bulletins, locating students, and working on the countless routine paper tasks, it is a wonder they ever have time to give the cheerful smiles we see as we step into one of the offices. .X me ' P. Q SUPERVISING PRINCIPAL ROBERT L. THOMAS Our chief executive, Supervising Principal Robert L. Thomas, is entrust- ed with the task of carrying out the policies decided upon by the Board of Education and of administering all of the schools in the XY'ebster Central district. Across his desk pass a multi- tude of problems having to do with expansion of facilities, hiring of per- sonnel, interpretation of policies, and the making of decisions which affect the welfare of all students present and future. To each of these Mr. Thomas brings his keen understanding, his wealth of experience and his Sound practical judgement. Wfe are indeed fortunate to have received our educa- tion in a school system directed by such a leader. Our Execufive Deparfmenf PRINCIPAL RALPH XV. MARTIN Mr. Ralph XV. Martin. principal of our high school, is the man to whom we turn for guidance when we come to a crisis in our school career. It is by his calm judgment that our personal conflicts are re- solved. His advice aids us to channel our energies into constructive ac- tivities and to avoid the extremes which lead to failure. It is under his direction that our scholastic, athletic, and extra-curricular pro- grams are harmonized in such a wav that we derive the maximum benefit from our school experiences. Nr' 4-2 PN. Vice-pres- ident Gail McGuire took over for Dave in his absence at times, while secretary Neil Van- Horn kept the minutes and roll of each meet- ing. Corresponding secretary Susan Bartusek handled the task of exchanging information with other county schools. Mr. Norman Cas- tor and Miss Mary Davis, advisers, helped keep the meetings running smoothly. The school year is recorded in picfures and sfory in fhe l957 REYEILLE. The Reveille for 1957 is the product of the labors of thirty-eight devoted Seniors, led by editor-in-chief Anne Lasher, through hectic struggles with deadlines, picture identification, sketches, and write-ups. Through the concerted effort of the whole staff in compiling the information and meeting the deadlines, the Class of '57 has been able to publish this yearbook. Sherry Putnam served as the Reveille's business manager, while six hard-working committees handled the various chores involved in producing the book. The literary committee, headed by Cory Clark and Scott Lyng, was responsible for all written material, while Curtis Higley's photography committee scheduled and assisted in the taking of pictures. Advertising was the headache of Don Basch and his committee, plus a number of additionally recruited seniors. Joyce Antes headed the circulation committee in the scramble for subscriptions. The art committee, under Nancy Neu- mann. thought up the Reveille's fine art work, while Kathy Rayment's typists prepared the copy for the printer. The Reveille Staff is grateful for the experi- enced direction of its advisers, Miss Esther Dunn, Miss Claudia XY'heeler, and Miss Kathleen Goetten. 50 OFFICERS AND ADVISERS Luft Io Rigbl: A. OFFICERS AND ADVISFR After an active summer in which they won three firsts in booth prizes and five first awards in judging contests at the Monroe County Fair and took first prize in vegetable crop judging at the Syracuse State Fair, Webster Future Farmers represented New York State at the National Veg- etable Growers' Convention in Atlanta, Georgia during the week of December 10-14. Their first-term activities included the initia- tion of 28 members, a Christmas party with the home ec girls, the horticultural show in Rochester, and the sale of refreshments at football games. During the second semester the boys played host to the County FFA Convention here at XVeb- ster, held their annual fathers and sons' banquet and accompanied the home economic girls for a day at Cornell University during Farm and Home Week, in addition to their spring term project of selling seeds. hhnsf 9 Q x C7 CW, ! K2iChm3ry'lC, M. 5135011 Higley, N, Sweezey, Mr, VU, O'Rourke, D. Sweet Although the Webster varsity finished in a tie for second place in AA competition, a thirteen won, five lost record plainly shows that this year's team was a fine, smoothly working ball club that overcame just about all opposition that it came up against. A four won, four lost league record belies the real ability of one of Webster's finest teams in years. Webster dropped a close, 52-50 decision to Irondequoit and a 66-62 battle to visiting East Rochester in league play this year. These losses were more than made up for by Webster's non-league play in which such teams as McQuaid, Canandaigua, and Brockport fell to the WCS forces. Webster's last game of the season perhaps best pictured the Webster squad, a comeback, uphill, 73-72 victory over the Red Raiders of Fairport. Webster also put several players on the list for all-county consideration. JUNIOR VARSITY BASKETBALL-Slandin : . Foster C. Baker D. Hase S J , , , C- Eckel, H. Kowalski, E. Harris, R. Vogt, L. Coach Herb Hatt's Ridgemen started out slowly. losing three out of the first five gamesg they had had no outdoor practice before the sea- son began because of poor weather. Last year the Ridgemen made short work of many powerful teams, placing second in league competition behind the Barons. This year Coach Boyd Campbell will have the services of several veteran starters to bolster the 1957 court squad. also TENNIS and VOLLEYBALL VOLLEYBALL I957 Webster volleyball teams have always enjoyed a great measure of success in Monroe County League competition, and the calibre of the 1957 team seems to forecast another all-conquering season for the Ridgemen. Coached by Mr. Seymour Eggleston, Webster's twelve-man squad is made up of a strong nucleus of juniors and seniors as well as up-and-coming underclassmen who are gaining valuable experi- ence for the future. These coor- dinated boys worked hard to per- fect techniques of parallel bar work, trampoline maneuvers, springboard exercises and a num- ber of flips and balances. Tum- bling will undoubtedly become even more popular in the future. BASKETBALL VC'ebster's eighth grade court- men finished one of their best seasons this year, winning a great majority of their seventeen games. Coached by Mr. Charles Brown, the eighth grade quintet nipped Penfield, 23-22, to capture the Monroe County eighth grade bas- ketball championship.
