For her kindly spirit and wise counseling toward our ultimate goals we, the Class of 1942, dedicate our Reveille to Grace M. Thomas. During our four years in Webster High School, Mrs. Thomas has been an influencing factor in each Senior's life, for her willingness to help solve our individual problems and her complete understanding of young people, have made her a haven to turn to in time of doubt and perplexity.- Mrs. Thomas' calm manner and encouraging smile is conducive to confidence and sincere friendship in those about her, and through this feeling she has come to represent a respected friend with each of us, not merely a teacher. We honor and respect her'for her services to the school in the math department, her guid- ance to the Junior boys, her efforts toward the complete success of all student activities, and our four years of companionship and pleasure with her. She is one of the things which makes Webster High School the line place it is, she is an integral part of all its honor and tradition. She will always, in years hence, be one of our brightest memories of high school days, and we all may well follow her admirable example: . . . This above all.-To thine ownself be trueg And it must follow, as the night the day, Thou canst not then be false to any man. . L. x .il di XS -v-gn i 8 L J... 1 ll ' Mus .5-w. f I 3 if -1 1 1 Q Ali I W. x,,x X6 mfnbfzaflon . . RUIEISRT L. THOMAS l'r1'nf1'pal lr has been truly said that the most precious possessions of a nation are its great traditions. Surely no people of any other country have been trustees of so great a heritage as have we in America. Now this inheritance, these traditions. are attacked viciously by unscrupulous enemies. This chal- lenge must be met valiantly by a people accustomed to freedom and to all that it means. As these words are read this liberty means more to us than ever before. With this freedom we have attained more happiness and security in America than at any other time or place in all history. Our duties in this crisis are certainly greater than these privileges which we have enjoyed. It is hoped that in great measure you may feel fortified to meet these problems as a result ol your contacts and training in this institution. The information you have acquired, the method of study and the practices you have followed here are all exceedingly important yet are secondary to the character strength you have developed up to this moment. Though new winds may blow, set your sails to their advantage. VVork with what you have and increase your strength constantly that you may meet vigorously this extraordinary challenge. Let me not hide behind the window-pane, Too sheltered and too snugly warm, lint let me drink the wind of strife, And brave the buffets of the storm. 9 Ks, 1 N x Q I I I SI1If'IfI'f, f.'IH7IIVII47I.Q1, l f1n1ff11w, lllulff llzmrlffrf, ffwrrllrxgj. lx'.,'grf ll fslppfr. ll14w'.v. lfuxli. lhlulw. ll1.g1'.jx'. ll1lH,w. Then, on September 2, 1941, we entered Welwstei' High School to commence our last year here. The class was reunited and placed under the direction of Miss Ruth Hollander. A magazine contest was held in the fall, and the class was divided into two teams. The green team was led by Neva Hoflimeier, and the gold team, was led by Phyllis Kelly. The green team was the winner. During the latter part of October and the lirst of November our class conducted a Christ- mas card sale. Velma Mack and Alice Semmler were appointed to take charge. Une hundred lifty boxes were sold, giving our class SCVt'l1fy- live dollars profit. On December 17, 19-11, the Senior Play, Little Miss Fortune, was presented in the school auditorium under the direction of Miss Hollander. Later, the Reveille Staff was appointed with Marjorie Kleinhammer as editor-in-chief. The last important social event of the year took place when the Senior liall was presented in the latter part ol' May, the students danced in a gala setting and will always remember it as a fitting climax to four years of association together. When the names of .lack Foster as valedic- torian and .lohn Campbell as salutatorian were announced in April, the class was proud of their representation by these two. Cabinet Member: Miss STONE .......... . . . Advixor Activity has been the key word ofthe juniors during the past school year. In sports, clubs, and extracurricular activities they have proved themselves both good sports and earnest workers. The officers elected at the beginning ofthe year have co-operated in the administration of the duties of the student body and represented their class well. One of the largest profits ever taken in by the Junior classes was reaped by the Harvest Prom through the help of Miss Stone. Don't Take My Penny under the direction of Mrs. Klauss was received by enthusiastic audiences as a skillfully enacted comedy. With greater zest they will embark on their Senior year to grasp new laurels. Youisu: .........,. Faculty .4d:'1'.ror.r After a lively and colorful campaign for the presidency and vice-presidency, the students chose oflicers to govern their activities during the school year. The Students' Association successfully and el'l'iciently solved the problems presented to it throughout the year. The Hrst event undertaken by the Association was the annual carnival. lnstead of the usual performance by the teachers, entertainment was furnished by a well-known radio team. The pro- ceeds from the Carnival and the sale of basketball tickets were used, as in past years, to provide for various matters which include sending representatives of the Courier to the Press Conference at Syracuse, awarding a prize to the group presenting the best program in assembly, and purchasing equipment necessary for the various athletic teams. ln connection with the National Defense Program the Association sponsored the sale of defense stamps and bonds on one day of every week, throughout the school. Shortly after Christmas vacation, a lost and found department was established to be managed by a committee appointed by the Association. Also in january a very successful drive for the Red Cross was conducted among the students and the various organizations. A contract was formulated for use of the public address system to make daily announcements. 'lihe system was made available to any club or organization in the school which wished to present announcements and providing dance music. A fund of ten dollars was appropriated for the purchase of dance records. The records were used for dancing during noon hours and after basketball games. The Students' Association deserves congratulations for the competent manner in which it handles the problems presented to it. 37 l'lRS'l' Inns: llfgl, lfflwfl, Fmtrr, llfgffnlrffr, !jIllHf7llr'N, KffI'IIl1aIIIIIIfr', llnl!aIIflI'r, Smilfz, KI-lly, .Urrr1'l!. Don't Take My Penny! by Anne Coulter Martens, was presented lfriday, the 2-lth of April. As Director of the play, Mrs. Klauss was competently assisted by Marilyn 0'Dell. Mr. and Mrs. Pringle, played by Robert Rochelle and Beverly Warner respectively, were too absorbed in their work, to notice their daughter Penny's QDoris Hatinakerj temporary obsession for a movie career, or their son, Mark's CGene Williaiiisj desire for a chicken farm. Carol Dublin and Dick lfrvine were especially entertaining in their roles-Carol as the sweet, hustling, helpful grandmother, and Dick with his impersonation of an engaging girl who was supposed to capture the leading role for a movie, the role which Penny had her heart set on. Kerry, Penny's boy friend himself, impersonated Harrison Day, the author, who was scouting for a star. What followed when the real Harrison Day appeared and the straightening out ofthe entanglement proved very intriguing. 'l'Hli CAST OF CHARACTERS Sally, if mfml Sf'fl,l fi purpfm' .
