PROPHECY Come, hurry with me. Here we are. These are the broad stone steps that lead to the Door of Op ortuni- ty of this tall and stately building called Glimpses of the Future. Would ou like to glimpse wiiere the class of '41 of Webster High School has ventured? Every graduate with his dipiioma clutched in his hand has visualized what he wishes his future to be. Now, we shall see if his plans have been achieved, if success has sent a mist of happiness and joy to him, and if he realizes that his high school years had been the core of his fruitful future. The door is opening. Enter the Hall of Future Prospects. This first door sa s, The Medical World. Shall we take a peek mi' T wo girls in white uniforms-Anna May Mack and Trane Tolles-are working energetically at their desks. In the operating room, two doctors-Edward Fuoco and Clarence Seavert-with three assistant nurses-Esther Beisiegel, Ellen Cleary and Mary Enderlin-are operating on an emergency case. Through this door, Dentistry, we see Doris Williams busy with her apparatus. The next door says, Teaching There's Barbara Fisher explaining the verb forms to her English class, Marian Guerand reading J ack and the Beanstalk to her first graders, George Maier giving a talk about spring planting to his agriculture class, and Lewis Wolf showing the fundamentals of dairying to his pupils. As we were about to cautiously open another door, the marching of feet approached us, and there stood art of Uncle Sam's forces. The captain, John Cushman, shouted Attentionl he familiar faces of Norbert Banke, James Butz, Roy Comstra, William Hennekey, James Lieberman, Carlton Oberg, Robert Schmeer, and Frederick Vogt, all of the army, obe ed the command. The uniform of the arm air corps caught our eyes. Behold, Philip Bellomo, Robert Hoflhnan, and Walter Lobinske with the inevitable helmet and goggles arched on their heads. Strolling around the corner come two aeronautical engineers-Wallace Pensgen and lifobert Weegar. When the captain shouted, Forward March! the men saluted, smiled, and left. Suddenly the door, which we were about to enter, swung open and ont rushed a ou of oil smeared fi ures. We recognized them as bein mechanics. Among them were Donald Dickenson, Iglied lDorwald, Santo lgnocchario, Robert Hutte- man, Aifred Luke, Edwin Ross was employed as a tool designer, William Guthrie and Jack Lotze as chemical engineers, John Comerford in metallurgy, and William Caple and Carl Whiteman as chemists. As we entered the door which read, the Firm of Opportunity, Inc. our eyes were focused on countless ersons working at individual desks. As each face lifted to look at us, we distinguished them as being: Marjorie lilriscoll-ty ist, Rose Hulbert, Marguerite Lauhscher, Lottie Maslona, Lorraine Ross, Josephine Ruggeri -general office workers, George Prinzin , Mildred Strang, .loseph Wheeler-bookkeepers, Donald Stiekles -accountant, Ruth Hendricks, Betty Pill, Virginia Kaluzny, Jean Kittelberger, Rose Lazzaro, and Flor- ence Marcy-secretaries, Walter Olson-machine operator, Peter Klem-advertising manager, and .lames Hendricks-the firm lawyer. I After leaving this huge, noisy ollice, we strolled into a beauty salon where Margaret Koons, Shirley Brucker, Almera Forman, Virginia Hargarther, and Dorothy Musclow were busily working in their booths. Dorothy Hammond and Bernice Prentiss, the telephone operators, were having a facial when their boss, Howard Watson, sent an emergency call. The pleasant aroma of food led us into the department of Home Economics. Gene Harris and Geraldine Wagner were employed as dieticians with Evelyn Clifford, Leona Semmler, and Eva Wilbert assistin them. Thcil decorators-Audrey Amann, Betty Chluch and Jean Hendee-were sketching plans while chatting wit us. When we left this department, we met the journalists- Robert Gerlach, Virginia Kelly, and John Salter -rushing oil' to complete their assignments for the day. We tried to follow them but the strains of melodious piano composition arrested our attention. As we glided to the door, we found others attentively listening to the music. They were Betty Hapgood-laboratory technician, Jean Johanson-buyer, Mary Martin- social service worker, Raymond Osborn-assemblyman at Kodak, Robert Busch-gas station attendant, William Towner and Robert Wa ar-clerks, Vincent Craft, Edward Gnage, Donald Madison, Robert Schilstra, William Schrieber, and Earl Whalen-farmers. The music that so enchanted these people and us was being played by Edwin Hayden. I?Nhile leaving the building, and with the beautiful notes still echoing behind us, we wondered at the work ol' ate. 23 CLASS OF '42 OFFICERS EDWARD J ANTSCHI . , President KENNETH CoNaow . . Our freedom of initiative was expressed when we sponsored an after-school dance in the gymnasium, the profits from which did not greatly re- plenish our treasury but rather, added to our store of experience. We gained further training in democratic living by taking part in the many extra-curricular activities offered by the school. ln our two remaining years we hope to make good use of our American heritage of free democratic education.
