Stone. With the deepest respect and admiration, we honor her for the faithfulness and de- votion she has shown our class. Through her untiring efforts. we, as Juniors. were able to achieve notahle suc- cess with our activities throughout the year of 1939. Her efficient guidance and in- fluence were the prime factors in making our Junior Play and Junior Prom outstanding achievements. Although we were not directly under this influence this year, we feel that our accomplislnnents as Seniors should he partly credited to Miss Stone who firmly established in our minds the ideals and ethics which upper classmen should follow. Her companionship and affahility will long he remembered for we deem our association with her a prized possession. On May 19, 1939, the Junior play, The Late Christopher Bean, was given under the direction of Miss Mary Benedict and was acknowledged as a fine piece of work. The cooperation of the class members in giving these two affairs was very evident. The class awards were given to Jean Merrill and George Vogt. Our last year begain in September, 1939, in Room 29, again under the supervision of Miss Ruth Hollander. The officers chosen were: XVARREN HEARD . . . President VIVIAN VERCROUSE . . Secretary GEORGE Vocr . . Vice-President ALKONE GILMAN . . Treasurer BERNARD SCHREIBER, JEAN NIERRILL, ROBERT WILLIAMS . . . Cabinet In October the .class sold magazines to raise money for our yearbook and other expenses. The class was divided into two teams headed by Vera Burkhardt and Betty Kusse. T he Gold Team led by Betty Ixusse won the contest, but the Green Team was close behind. V Duging the last part of November we sold Christmas Cards under the leadership of Loretta orn ran. The senior play, Double Wedding, directed by Miss Ruth Hollander was held on January 10, 1940, and was very capably presented. In March the Valedictorian and the Salutatorian, were chosen. The former was George Vogt and the latter was Sally Beck. The Senior Ball which was held in the latter part of hlay was very successful. Although all of these important events are now past, we still look forward to Commencement. 13 ci, Go 'i JOHN .KDKIN uTl11',v is Ihr slmrl mul lung rgf fl. Treasurer AYILLIAM l,0N0llI'E, RIARIIC SToNn ......... Faculty .-lrlrisers Beginning the year with a lively campaign for the presidency and vice-presidency, the Students' Association, with the help and advice of the faculty advisers, successfully solved every problem that came to its attention. The first undertaking of the Students' Association was the sponsoring of the annual Carnival in October. The receipts from this occasion enabled it to send the editor and managing editor of the Courier Staff to the Syracuse Press Convention, to award five dollar prize to the group presenting the best assembly program. to replenish the make-up kit, and to provide for other miscellaneous matters which arose during the year. In addition the Association appropriated a fund to help defray Roberta Crane's expenses to Chicago, where she represented New York State in the National Cherry Pie Baking Contest. Continuing its practice of selling basketball tickets, this year, the Cabinet raised enough money to defray all athletic expenses. The policy of inviting into the Cabinet the defeated candidates for the presidency and vice- presidency of the Students' Association was established. However, they were not to have the power of voting. Since the former method of judging assembly programs seemed inadequate. a point system, based upon audience appeal and preparation, was established to be used in determining t.he winner of the five dollar prize. Toward the end of the year a process was formulated by which various uuderclassmen. including lfreshmen, Sophomores. and Juniors, were invited to attend Cabinet meetings for the double purpose of acquainting them with the manner in which our student body functions and of making the Cabinet more fully aware of the problems confronting them. The Students' Association deserves hearty congratulations for its successful work in promoting cooperation and smoother relationships among the various factions of the school.
