To our religious fathers we owe the heritage of knowing the dignity of the human person before God, while acknowl- edging our subservience in striving to know, love and serve Himg to our political fathers, the heritage of civil freedom and human rightsg to our scholastic fathers, the heritage of a fund of knowledge and an insatiable curiosity to probe the unknowng to our immediate fathers, the heritage of love and security in our homes. It is a heritage we cherish all the more, since it has been seized from so many of our contemporaries. May God grant We preserve it. Starting with general science for the freshmen-they may avoid falling apples-and ending with physics for the seniors, the XVeber- ite manages to cover quite a few essential facts. In between are tucked the essentials of biology and chemistry. We need not expound upon the necessity of this in our times. Although we have had no countdowns at Weber as yet land no blasted windows eitherj. few students can leave the premises without a fair idea of modern science. St. Rita, unobliging hosts, scored in the third and fourth quarters despite 21 Horde lead of twelve points at the half. A Rita one-point conversion led to our first loss, 13-12. Undaunted, The Indians attacked City Champs, Mendels' Monarchs. Again an early lead on a 66-yard TD run by Werba and two rallies by Bob Wiater proved fruitless as the Monarchs scored three times in the third and once in the fourth. Schlieben has the ball-along with a great deal of trouble in the form of a Rambler line- backer. Determination, Courage, Stamina, Ability- Despite desperate Horde efforts, De Paul's Demons chalked a final tally of 16-6 in our next bid for glory. A hair-raising scramble describes the Horde-Tiger melee. Tigers, 13-0 in the first halfg a 34 yard sprint by Schlieben for a TDQ a plunge through line for 37 yards and TD by Werbag recovery of a kickoff ball in the Tiger end zone after it touched a Trinity back, Final score: 22-15 Red Horde's favor. Two TD's and a conversion by Schlieben, Wiater, Quinn, and Pasko brought down St. Georges Dragons, 14-6 and gave Weber a playoff berth in the CFL North Section. Despite forecasts of an upset, Leo's Lions edged the Horde out of the league playoffs, 20-14. A Leo 6 countered by a pass from Quinn to Touhyg Lions back with two TD's opposed by a pass and lateral scoring play by Quinn, Touhy, and Schliebeng a pass snared by Werba in end zone for Horde's final two. Ironically, an untallied pre-season win against Leo began our season, a tallied loss was our death blow. Page 100 Bob Wiater snares pass, makes first down, and is immediately snared by an eager Rambler. The Eternal Dream Of Every Football Coaclw Ron Werba will get a chance for some broken Held running if Wiater blocks in time. JUNIOR BASKETBALL-The Bucket Brigade Mention basketball to someone antl. more than likely. the lirst thing that comes to his mind is a scene consisting of 8 foot giants lumbering across the courts. dropping balls through baskets intlis- criminately. Some feel that the Lise of these tall fellows takes the excitement out of the game-the taller team inevitably winningfleaving nothing to chance or skill. If this is so. then hartlcourt matches between teams composed of no one over 5'8 woultl surely separate ability and experience from mere height. This is the case with the rather unique junior teams of the Catholic Basketball League. The ceilings have been lowered on these boys and the giants sit back and watch them score points by shooting, not dropping. ff?-. We then journeyed to Evans- ton to inllict our wrath on St. George and came away 45-42 victors. Gordon Tech sought and found revenge for the trimming we gave them earlier in the season. pulling no punches in dealing us a 56-47 defeat. Loyola fell under the hatchet of the Red Horde by 2 points, but the next Friday evening found us getting scalped by a three point edge of Holy Trin- ity. lt was close all the way in the St. George melee. but we were on the top of the heap at the end by one basket. We have, no doubt, been more intrigued by their maneuvers than by the music. The Military Band has. therefore. arranged a festival whereby we might learn that the music they have been playing is proportionate to. if not excelling. their excellence on the field. The festival was also an opportunity to grant the awards many of our musicians have earned.
