We offer honor and glory to the divine artist who has conceived a reproduction which actually livesg we offer thanks that this reproduction is ourselves. And God created man to his own image . . .H by endowing him with an immortal soul and conferring upon it intelligence and volition. Impelled by a unique love, He per- fected his work by his gift of supernatural life through the redemption and there- by adopted us as his earthly sons. St. Paul most aptly concludes: but if we are sons, we are heirs alsog heirs indeed of God and joint heirs with Christ . . . pro- vided, we suffer with him . . . that we might be glorified with himf' We paint, though imperfectly, a portrait of these sons of God as they learn to imitate the example of their divine brother, the God-man. 2... 73 C3 0 www., .MW r f , ll lug - , ,,, Q 1 , nw .Q -as-.Q-C . , if ' AW -A' I 4 ,!:,j, ' fx W I, ,f'j. f '. v 1 ,4 . Although the fundamental program of the school has always heen di- rected towards Catholic leadership, the extent to which it will he fulfilled depends largely on the character of the principal. A sincerity which cannot he questioned. coupled with the driying zeal and the deep-rooted interest in the welfare of each and eyery student, is a quality in our prin- cipal, Fr. lidwin liarlowicn. CR., which ensures the ful' lillment of our institution's goals. The principals otlice is one of extreme moment and can consequently only he entrusted to one who is a leader himself. His unswerying purposefulness, self-discipline, dry humor. evident piety. and clear thinking are the qual- ities which haye impressed us the INOSI. These are the qualities which we too wish to acquire that we might also hecome leaders. As the apprentice of his diyine Master, it is his determination to present intact the fold entrusted to his care. for he realizes fully that of these are the heirs of the future e the heirs of heaven. In the spacious gym they have an opportunity to improve their co-ordination and general athletic prowess besides con- suming some of their pent up energy. Obviously everyone cannot participate in inter- scholastic sports, so Wfeber has developed a Well-balanced intramural program. lt is played both outdoors as well as indoors and includes, football, basketball, volleyball, and baseball. Jendrach discovered that we had become the descendants of the Sioux of Southern Illinois. The Sioux were well-known for their victories against overwhelming odds. This was an excellent choice when Weber as a tiny school contended against the monsters of the Catholic League. In olden days, that is back in '54 a few weak howls were to be heard from the back- ground where a few brave souls were attempting to bring the old tribe back to life. Today. we really have a gallant band charging onto the held or the hardcourt. The present Tribe numbers eighteen and presents a truly memorable sight. This has been a busy year for our warriors, Uniforms had to be doubled - to say nothing of the repair work necessary after the Vocational game of last year. Headpieces. vests, leggins, winter jackets, a new chiefs headpiece, new eagle wings - all handmade - absorbed more than a few hours. The Tribe has endeavored to synchronize its shows with the band, The result of this attempt has been a feature dance. namely. the Sioux XVar Dance: comedy: Ten Little lndiansg group dances: various Dog Dances: drill: Bow and Arrow with the Band. The Red Horde Indians have also presented feature dances at the rallies, e.g. Death Dance, Medicine Dance, Consecration Dance, Dance of the Wfinds. and Spear Dances. They attempted to see in what manner and in what surroundings Frenchmen actually live. In order to accomplish this Fr. Przysucha, the moderator, obtained films of France and showed them at the regular meetings of the club. The Membres du Cercle Francais have thus become quite familiar with French pastimes. They can picture themselves taking a dip along the Riviera, drop- ping a few thousand francs on the tables in Monte Carlo, or cycling down Le Boulevard de Paris. The solemn beauty of the Cathedral of Notre Dame and the Louvre would not be uncommon sights to them. They also gained an insight into the daily lives of French- men. They saw the farmer, shepherd, and fisherman at work and the women buying food in the open markets. Does anyone need a good guide? Page 85 cience - To those who would seek a more detailed knowledge of the art of the physical sciences, to those with a deep-rooted curiosity of the things happening around them. we recommend the Science Club. There is always something to do - projects follow a wide and extensive range of subject matter. Under the ca- pable supervision of Mr. Zapo, the club is always busy working on group and individual projects. Many of these worthwhile projects include the constructing of electronical devices such as pre-amplifiers and radios from assembly kits. These projects are but a few of the many tasks that the members of this organization complete. Smoke can be seen coming from the physics lab as the boys with the soldering irons are busily at work disassembling worn electronical apparatus. These disassembled parts are later used in building new electronical equipment. Perhaps many times the members of the Science Club were not absolutely certain of what they are aboutg but, nevertheless, they attacked the project with an enthusiasm that equaled. if not surmounted the task. The club provides an excellent means of procuring a practical, working knowledge of electrical instruments of all sizes and shapes. Wfe cannot but hope to expect great things from the cluhg we also can hope to expect greater accomplishments from the Seniors who staffed this organization. Right to Left Seafed: Row l: T. Borun, VI. Our hardcourt warriors are depicted straining for that viral basket. Schedules of both football and basketball games are made available by this industrious sextet and their able moderator, Mr. L. A three and three record did not qualify them for a playoff berth. This year, XVeber's Warriors were a little brawnier, making them comparable in size to many of the other Catholic Football League teams. An added advantage was the spirit and spunk of their predecessors which they retained. Although only three braves of the glorious '56 Cinderellas remained to carry on the fight, their heirs to the crown were determined to keep it in their possession. A bit of the sparkle left the crown as XVeber tied, 646, rather than conquered, Mt. Carmel, a p:rennial Catholic League powerhouse in a practice tilt. In the opener against Loyola, the prowess of backs Calzaretta, Stos, and Matheson netted a total of 18 points to set the score at XVeber l8, Loyola 7. And as usual there were fewer boys coming to these sessions as the days passed. Those that stuck it out were those that wanted to play ball. those that could play ball, those that would play ball. The strategy was provided by coaches XY'alter Mar- szalek and Ron Clhernik. Since Coach Cherniles name is new to most of us, let's take a look into his back- ground. He's not new at XVeber for he is a member of the Class of '45 Holding down the position of left halfback of XY'eber's first championship football team and guard on the basketball team are some of Page 101 VQVGS his high school accomplishments. XY'e had to start over again. Though ex- perience was at a minimum there was great possibility that this could be overcome through our extensive practice schedule. Our record for the seven practice games was five wins and two losses. Taft, Fenwick, St. Mel, and Austin whom we beat twice bowed in de- feat as St. Philip and St. Mel subjected us to the sanie humility. XY'e went charging ahead into the De Paul Senior Tournament, defeating St. Rita and St. Philip for an assured fourth place. Then Fenwick dealt us a death blow in the semi-final game but we managed to salvage the third place trophy by defeating Loyola in the consolation game. Our record was identical to that of De Paul - so the second place berth was decided by the fiip of a coin. XY'e had to be satisfied with third place in the North Section. As is the custom in the Catholic League, the third place North Section team faces the first place South Section team. This arrangement made it possible for us to observe first hand how good a team De La Salle was. They were good as is proved by the lopsided seventy-five to forty-seven final score. Again we did not quite make the top, but then we could look to the future and speculate on how well our successors would make out. The size and shape of the school and its classrooms will eventually be forgotten. Also lost to memory will be many of the names of our teachers and of our fellow students. Despite this we can honestly say, We will remember Wleber and the effect it had upon our lives. It is futile to attempt a complete explanation of this statement. Let us simply state that we are practicing the Cathfmlic principles we have learned at Weber. We b:l'ev2 that these principles are the only things which have real value in a Catholics life. This spring the scene shifted once again to comedy after last years rather serious morality produc- tion. From May 9 to l2, the social hall rocked to the efforts of some ten Weberites plus Susan Witt of Alver- nia and Kathy Ender of lmmaculata. The Biggest Thief in Town concerned the efforts of a small town undertaker and a doctor to steal the body of the towns wealthiest citizen. Said citizen, how- ever, happens to be very much alive - score oneg more- over he reveals that he will die - when the time comes - penniless. The undertaker, who has already prepared an elaborate funeral, now finds himself the proud posses- sor of the only bronze casket west of New York. OPPOSITE PAGE The crook finally does die, and the undertaker is quite willing to let his rival have the body, bronze casket, and future litigations. In the process, however, the fast mov- ing undertaker suffers conscience qualms. Undertaker, corpse, wicker baskets. and caskets began to move with the liveliest and most involved movement of the dead since Adam. This was the year of the poor unfortunates who never appeared before the footlights. Our set makers. lighting engineers, and make-up men finally came into their own. Even one astute advanced publicity man was found somewhere, and the school literally blossomed out in posters which sparked a better than usual ticket sale. Top: Jay Stewart QC.
