Inevitably, this task is a difficult one. and only if they can suppress their fears and doubts can the youth succeed. With the entire world in turmoil. the youth of all nations have been called upon to give their utmost. Theirs is the fight: and theirs will be the peace and the future. Can these youths really be together? Only the future can tell and we, the youth of America, have full com- mand over that future. Shall we succeed in this gigantic undertaking. or shall we fail dis- mally, and suffer the consequences? Rest assured, that with a splendid background, and education. such as we have had, the future shall be made secure. A bright future will become your cherished heritage if you carry with you the torch of ideals you have acquired at your Alma Mater. New intellectual vis- tas have been opened for you and brought to matur- ity. Your eyes were tenderly opened to the impor- tance of spiritual values in the everyday life of a young man. You are leaving the portals of Weber a finished product, prepared solicitously and suffi- ciently to meet bravely and to solve satisfactorily the problems of life that will confront you. With a deep sense of gratitude to God we bid you farewell. With a sincere feeling of pride in your ac- complishments, we present you to an anxious and restless humanity as the bearers of new hope and courage. Carry bravely and steadfastly into the war- torn world the beacon of the Love of God, love of neighbor, sincerity, honesty and leadership. Remain a faithful son of' your Alma Mater! These hands which have learned to conduct experiments, taught us the rudiments of the language of nature and will be a source of ioy and excitement in often- times painful advance of science. Only by techniques of investigation wrought by the dexterity of our hands, can we pry open the gates of scientific enigmas, and break down the barriers to future wonders which will make life more worth while for generations to come. On the side' lines, and deep in the background of their stel- lar playing, Wodka, the twelfth man on the team, partook in the game in his own way. Though not playing, he infused a winning spirit into his team. The Little Davids displayed that spirit in their preseason games when they humbled two highly touted opponents, St. Philips and St. Mets. Later, the same spirit was Carried into the league games and, as a result, Mt. Carmel, the defending City Co-Clianips, was the first to taste defeat. Then Came Loyola, Leo, and De LaSalle. After a tie with St. Rita, the team traveled to foliet where a yivtory cinched the South Section Title. ln a bitterly Contested battle against Fenwick for the league championship, the tean! The Little Davids , as they were call- ed by most sports writers, made this calendar year of 1944 a Grand Slam Year in the field of sports at Weber. lt was a combination of best qualities of leadership and rare courage which brought this first football champion- ship- to the Alma Mater. How sad would be our plight were we unable ever to read again, were we obliged to depend only upon our other senses for infor- mation about current events! Yet, our eyes must possess a clear and sharp vision into the future --not in manner oi prophecy, but in manner oi always choosing that which is good over the bad, that which is better over the less good, that which is perfect over the imperfect. It can not be just one or two things or an accident or luck, but the grouping of many things that give sixty years of life to its existence. FIRST AND FOREMOST, it must be confidence. Conhdence ranks supreme in influencing business. For sixty years we have stood the test of confidence. Such a record can only come through the adherence to stan- dards. Standards of merchandise, of quality of service, of fair dealing. These standards rigidly maintained have built us this sixty year record.
