HISTORY OF THE SENIOR CLASS It is generally considered the duty of a historian to trace from the begin- ning, the thing with which he is concerned. With that fact in mind let us record the growth of a class who has been outstanding in the fields of accom- plishments. The history of a class is but a record of its growth. In September, 1940, we entered Webber Township High School with an enrollment of thirty-six. All proceeded quite well throughout the year and we took active parts in several parties and athletics. At the beginning of the year we elected our class officers, all of whom filled their positions quite well. At the beginning of our second year we had enrolled approximately thirty students, with some new ones and a few old ones having dropped out. Our class officers were Noel Whalen, President, and Roy Williams, Vice-President, both of whom Filled their positions successfully. By this time we had a full year of experience behind us, and we began to take part in social life and athletics. And so we came to our third year which was a very busy one for the thirty- one jolly Juniors, which composed the class. We elected our class officers for the year, Norman Thomason, President, Noel Whalen, Vice-President, Margaret Sullivan, Secretary, and Mrs. Petitt, our class sponsor. With Mrs. Petitt directing it we presented our class play, Uncle Cy Hits a New Highf, The proceeds of the play went for the junior-Senior Banquet. In the fall of 1943 we entered school with an enrollment of twenty. Our class was reduced to eighteen when two of our boys joined the Navy. We are proud to honor such boys as, Norman Thomason, Bob Monoghan, Clyde Shields, Noel Whalen, Keith Watts, Herman Green, and James Brookman, who are now in the service of their country. Class oflicers were Howard Gowler, President, Buddy Green, Vice-President, Roy Williams, Secretary, and Mrs. Power our class sponsor. Serving on the student council were, Margaret Sullivan, and Paul Holloway, with Margaret, president of the council. And now we are ready to graduate, each to go his own way to take up the problems of life. We are very grateful and indebted to our teachers and parents for the help and understanding they have given us. The memories of the years spent here shall remain with us as time goes on. PAUL E. HoLLowAv, Historian. The 1944 Web 9
