Nine years ago the white wooden huiling, known as the Hay Creek School, was erected in the south part of town. In 1922 the first complete high school was taught with E. B. Brown as superintendent. During the summer of '24 it was decided that Webb City High needed a more pretentious home, so a part of the brick building was put up and high school classes were conducted in it with Mr. Brown as superintendent and G. P. Wild, principal. As enrollment increased, it was necessary to make the building larger. More rooms were added in 1925 and now there are, on the main floor, a large, well-equip- ped library and study hall. a home economic department of three rooms, a science laboratory with adequate equipment, thirteen regular class rooms, two shower rooms, 400 capacity auditorium which is also the gym, and offices for superintendent, princi- pal and secretary. In the basement are the supply rooms, boy scout rooms, an in- dustrial arts department with usable tools, and the engine room. The building is modern throughout. At present M. B. Nelson is superintendent and L. C. Ellwanger is principal. There are eleven other faculty members, all of whiom have bachelordegrees. There is a total enrollment of 254 students in high school. The Webb City High School is a member of the North Central Association. Page Five 6' 6' .g..-1- .fn .far - mf---rs. Page Six FACULTY M. B. NELSON Superintendent B. 'S. Kansas S. T. S. forty-seven green fresh- men Who were to make history during the ensuing four years. The first important event of the year was riding the goat. Said goat was rather frisky, but the greenies passed this ordeal without being marred physical- ly. Bill Dancy was president and Miss Hawes Know Mrs. Caylorj Was sponsor. The next milestone was the sophomore year. The green had Worn off and the class was beginning to be an asset to the school. Some were play- ing football, and others were taking part in non-athletic activities. Starr Rinard Won a place on the all-conference second football team. James Peters was president and Mr. Kendall was sponsor. Ever soaring higher, these students reached their junior year. John Argo was president and John Eastwood, vice president. Miss Brown sponsored the class until she Went away to schoolg then Miss Stebler was chosen to complete the year. Probably the outstanding event was the play, Forest Acres. The junior-senior banquet at the Quada-seeda Club near Ponca City was a marked success. Woodrow Blackstock was toast- master, and several juniors were speakers. At the close of the football season, Louis Maher was chosen as one of the three high-point men on the team and thus earned a trip to Norman to see a varsity game. At last THE year arrived. There were not so many in the class as in '27. Some had tellen by the wayside or had moved awayg so there were only seventeen graduating seniors. This class elected Helen Parker for president and LeRoy Blackstock for vice-president. Miss Chaney Was chosen sponsor. - Bernard Randolph was placed on the all-conference Ark Valley foot- ball team. Of the thirteen members of Oklahoma State Honor Society, six were seniors. Louis Maher made highest grades. LeRoy Blackstock had been a member of this society for the four years of his high school career. The debate team was made up of three senior boys who very ably upheld either side of the question, and under Mr. Davis' coaching they brought home from the tournament at Shidler a beautiful cup. Other members were active in the various clubs. Ruby Gravitt was president of the Wildcats g Helen Parker was on the girls quartet. So ends this not-so-strange, eventful historyg but, unlike Shakie's seventh-age man, they have only begun the real history. May the train- ing they have rec-eived here be of some help to them in choosing their several careers. The same team upheld both sides of the question and won the tournament which was held in Shidler, March 24, 1931. The question for debate was: Resolved: That chain stores are detrimental to the best interests of the American public. CLASS PROPHECY In 1940 Miss Pearl Chaney decided to tour the United States to see her dear Seniors of '30 and '31, She first visited Hollywood, California, where she saw the two famous actors of the day, Lorene Blackstock and Hannah Corn. She then de- cided to attend the main attraction that afternoon, a football game between Stanford and Yale. The two coaches were soon recognized as Starr Rinard and Bernard Randolph. After the game, she decided that she needed to visit a beauty parlor and upon inquiring decided to visit the Bobette, which was conducted by Grace Reese and Rubye Jean Gravitt. She next visited Chicago where she heard Katharine Jordan sing over the radio. From here she journeyed to the leading newspaper office. Here sat nobody but LeRoy Blackstock. who was editor-in-chief. Beside him was Lee Opal Warren, who was always busy typing. The next few days were spent inside a court room where Billie LaBorde, a very pr-osperous lawyer, and Louis Maher, as the sober judge, were found. At Detroit, Mich.. was John Eastwood, a famous inventor. Her next stop was St. Louis where Frances Elkins and Mabel Campbell were operating a large gymnasium for reducing. Here she saw Hazel Carr and Helen Parker taking special reducing lessons. Her journey was delayed by her sudden illness, and who should be her doctor and nurse but Woodrow Blackstock and Carrie Nellie Cozart. Under their special care she soon recovered and returned home.
