'llimi BEST CHTHZENS We now introduce to you the Best Boy and Girl Citizens of the class of 1955! They are Carol Sue Huddleston, sponsored by the Daughters of the American Revolution, and Jimmie Bridges, sponsored by the Sons of the American Ilevolution. They were selected by the trainers and the Senior perform- ers as the girl and boy who best exemplify the ideals of citizenship in their graduating class. They were awarded medals at the Honor Assembly. ' 1':Qf! BEST SPORTSMEN Two of the top performers under our Big Top are Fern Conner and Bob Wuellner who were selected as the Babe lluth Sportsmen of the Class of 1955. They were given this honor by a representative committee com- posed oi' student council members and fac- ulty and the vote of the senior high student body. Selection for the Babe Ruth Sports- manship Award is based on athletic ability, sportsmanship and citizenship. This is the fifth year the student council has sponsored this award and this year's selection is rep- resentative of our performers. SOPHOMORES ul l'lCQl1R5 lkivitl Sllllill. president: jutly tlrulclicr, scart-tary. Bur Bums. treasurer. .Xlan llughes, xicc-president One hundred ten of us-the Sophiesl an average number but an unusual group jumped on the band wagon for the first act of our performance. Although we lack the agility of the Juniors and the dignity of the Seniors, still we have proven ourselves to he a promising class. Even though we have to play second fiddle, we have displayed our talents in the musical groups and the Senior High Operettag our eagerness in Stu- dent Council and Dobateg and our loyalty as cheerleaders and as team mates-to say nothing ol' our vvcll organized study habits. So, watch out for us! wc make a circus of our own. Home IIooM 28-MRS. Hurry! Hurry! Right this way Ladies and Gentlemen, for the best in Student Councils. We now have in the Center Ring the Senior High Student Council of Webb City High School composed of 36 members. This organization has performed many duties including: running the popcorn machine at basketball and football games, buying ping pong tables for the new gym, and sponsoring the dances after games. They have gone to some of the neighboring towns to visit their high schools to see how they are con- ducted and to gain information on how we may better our own school. Some ol' the meni- bers of this organization attended the Student Council Convention at Neosho. On April 21 these hard working people took time out to go on their annual picnic at Schimmerhorn Park in Galena, Kansas. om row -l-lois l5oy'er,lL1tly Cfutclicr. .xlL1I'j'f.LIVIlN klgnnes. The members have endeavored to be of service to the school and faculty. The Council stresses school regulations and govern ment. At the meetings the general subjects of discussion are ways by which the campus may be kept attractive, improvements of the school, activities for the students, and friendly relationships between students and teachers. The Council sponsored several very successful parties during the year in order to foster good fellowship among the students and also to help buy various imp1'ovements for the school. The Council has helped to direct locker and campus clean-ups. During the Christmas season they adorned the first floor with festive Christmas decorations. The Council elects and sponsors the Junior High Cheerleaders, who have appeared at Junior High basketball games. The usual long hours of arranging layouts, planning, and mounting photographs, and writing editorials, were complemented by the fascination of the many new things we all learned. A very special highlight of the year was the QU9011 COHYQSL in which 560 annuals were sold. News old Knot too oldl, new, or not yet unearthed, is the prime objective of the 332 junior and senior members of this journalistic organization. To see one's articles in print, to wear the Cardinal Notes pin and guard, to qualify for Quill and Scroll are the secret aspirations of each and every member of this group. Cardinal Notes members sometimes enjoy relaxation from their reporting duties by such social affairs as the covered dish dinner held at Kay O'Bryant's home on February 14, 1955. The Valentine motif was observed in the menu and decorations. Music and games were enjoyed after the dinner. Planning the publicity activities for W.C.H.S.'s Greatest Show on Earth this year were: Donna Rogers as presidentg Mary Curtis James, vice-president, Tomi Williams, secretaryg Phillip Bellairs, treasurer, and Pansy Clemons Bradford, clipper. Mrs. Alma Johns has sponsored the group. The vocal music department of W.C.H.S., under the direction of Mr. Wayne Lawson, began its musical activities for the year with an assembly, followed by the Senior High Oper etta and a concert. Caroling in the halls preceded a beautiful Christmas Cantata. The greater part of the spring activity included participation in the music festival, contests, and the Junior High Operetta. The Mixed Chorus and the Girls' Triog soloists Lois Jane Kirk and Phil Bel- lairs, and Gary Smart, Trula Guiou and Deanna Richardson, pianists, qualified for the re- gional contest held at Springfield by being awarded one ratings at Carthage. All the large groups, ensembles and soloists were accompanied on the piano by Eleanor Gibbons. It fosters high scholarship among boy athletes and promotes good sportsmanship among the players themselves and other organizations of the school. This year besides having its annual HW Club dance, the club has given S100 to help buy sound equipment for the new gymnasium. The club is sponsored by Mr. Hunter. CHEERLEADERS The Cheerleaders have added color and zest to 'tOur Greatest Show on Earth this year. The cheerleaders surprised everyone at basketball season by making their grand entrance with new letter sweaters. They attended a cheerleader convention at Jefferson City in April. Junior mem- bers will undoubtedly use many of the ideas that were gained in this meeting next yea1'.
