The first year was putting the team together and the second year was the most productive. The most memorable mo¬ ment was the Glaston¬ bury game. It made ev¬ eryone confident that they could do it. The most frustrating game was the Bulkely game. It was the last inning. The score was 3-2 with 2 outs, and bases were loaded. A pop fly was hit to infield between the players. They did not catch the ball and lost the chance to be in the city finals. When asked for the Reggie Williams circles the bases after hitting a homerun. outlook for this year, Mr. Deloretto said, “It ' s go¬ ing to be as good and even better. We are short on pitchers but hope to do well. Most of the team is back, and we’ll have a good chance this year at the City Title.” The baseball team had an excellent season. When compared to last year the Coach said they had 1 win last year and 6 wins this year. They tied school records for wins. The team was recently made up of 10th and 11th graders. The seasons are always said to be tire¬ some but winning makes it prosperous. Alfred Coach D. discusses team stats with Tim Adgers as others look on. (Nick) Henderson was the most improved player, and Ray Moore was most valuable player. The best game played this season was against Glastonbury. It was the first win in our new league. It made ev¬ eryone notice that Weaver could be taken seriously. The score was 12-5. They played well and a lot of people were there. In that game Reg¬ gie Williams hit and field- ed well and Juan “Freaky” Romero was a good pitcher. For the two years Mr. Deloretto coached the team. 81 Kii Champion, Yinestra West, Jane Gentles, Judy Crawford, Suprina Alexander, Cheryl Sharpe, Wanda Aponte, Tiffany Wilson, Dana Olmsted, Coach Ms. Turcotte. The season wasn’t tire¬ some, it had inexperi¬ enced, players, no JV, and no build-up program from Fox Middle. The most improved player was Yinestra West. The best game played was against Hartford High whom they defeated. Te people who contri¬ buted the most were Yin¬ estra West, who was pitcher, Wanda Aponte, hitter, and Kii Champion. Last season was the most improved since Weaver had a girls’ softball team. Attitudes changed, and they were well disci¬ plined. The most frustrating thing was not having enough players. Charley Norman won the 400 and he was a member of the state open 4X400. The re¬ cord was 10-0. The season was both prosperous and tiresome. It is tiresome for the coach because he had to coach all year. It was equally tiresome for the athletes because most of them ran all year. Most improved athlete was Richard Hewitt and Alvin Waugh. The most valuable athlete was the Weaver track team. They all did an excellent job at the Greater Hartford Championship. The best meet was at the Greater Hartford Invitation. There were seven awards given to Weaver. Peter Hendricus received most valuable athlete award. He won the 200 meters and was 2nd in the 100 meter. Charley Norman won the 400 metters and anchored the 4X400 me¬ ters. He received most valuable runner award. The outlook looks prom¬ ising for this season be¬ cause alot of athletes are returning. Sophomore, Herdol Chrisie, has been doing most of the strong arm work under the basket and Junior Center, Mar¬ cus Smith, has been con trolling the back boards and had a game high of 15 rebounds against Wind¬ sor High. The chemistry is starting to mix for our team, after starting out 1- 4, now on a five game winning streak, but the glue to the whole team is William Jackson, who is a senior and handling the point guard position like I want it to be run. When Mr. Cunha took the team again after being away for 2 years, only a few girls decided to come out for the team and it looked like the sport was on its last legs. But thanks to some ef¬ forts by coach Cunha, Mrs. Lee in the physical education department and all of the freshman and sophomore home¬ room teachers, a team was found and we were once again on our way to rebuilding the sport with a group of enthusiastic newcomers and a few of the veterans. The veterans were Tonya Threet, Winsome Murray and Elva Douglas. The newcomers are Zor- aida Giolli, Tammy Can¬ non, Elizabeth Torres, and Ann Marie Allen. The team is scoring be¬ low what it would like, averaging only in the 60’s but a couple of years and some more newcomers along with some help from our physical educa¬ tion classes and Weaver will be back in the 90’s and 100’s where a Weaver team belongs. m Wrestling A Building Year . . . “The 1986-87 season was a rebuilding one. Such wrestlers as freshmen, Paul Blackwood and Lloyd Browne are the building blocks of a new team. Weaver was not without its stand-outs, like captain Brent Jordon and Senior Raymond McFarlane; they became the glue that held the team together. The wrestling has been working with the Junior High students from Lewis Fox Middle School, introducing them into wrestling.
