Going to classes, lunch, practices, class trips, activities, sports, home, and eventually on to higher education or jobs. This 1979 Portal is your tic¬ ket to accompany the Weaver staff students on a photo¬ graphic journey through the year. 5 Weaver students are indeed going places. The Modern Dance Troupe not only per¬ formed around the state but spent part of the summer per¬ forming to enthusiastic audi¬ ences in Jamaica. The Honor Society spent a weekend in Montreal learning the customs of a French speak¬ ing provence as well as discov¬ ering the universality of con¬ temporary night life. This summer 14 students and 2 advisors traveled to Ja¬ pan. These students were re¬ presentatives of the Weaver- Ibaraki Japan Exchange Pro¬ gram. Weaver was chosen along with only fifteen other high schools in the United States and was the only urban high school to participate in an exchange program. Our stu¬ dents traveled to the cities of Tokyo, Mito, and took sidetrips in Japan. They stayed with Jap¬ anese families for three weeks and participated in school and community activities. The trip was a rewarding and informa- tive experience for all. _ 6 7 9 Weaver High Sports are go¬ ing places. Each year teams get better. Each Year more stu¬ dents enter colleges with athle¬ tic scholarships. Whether it’s across town, across state, or out of state, when Weaver’s team buses come rolling back, their opponents know the ag¬ ony of defeat. 11 12 •1 1 I J 14 TH€LKT Presenting The Class Of 1979 SHEILA ALEXANDER “Sherleo” Aquarius Activities: Basketball, Concert Choir, Softball “If you make one step, someone will make two. We all know him no matter in what way. Mr. Copes, the Executive Vice Principal, has gone on to play. He’s gone back to school to get his P.H.D. Take a look, wouldn’t you say he deserves the degree! Mr. Copes showed us dedication and the power of will, but also good times and happiness fulfilled. Some of us grew close while others went astray. To you, Mr. Copes, success all the way. and love to a man who has given our class four years of his life, Mr. David White. We will never forget your trust and guidance throughout our years at Weaver High, nor will we forget all the fun that accompanied your presence. Thank You! This book is also dedicated in memory of the late Mrs. Caseralla, a lady we all admired and loved. We shall never forget her true devotion to Weaver High School. We will also remember her efficient work in the Counseling Department and, above all else, her friendly smile. With deepest regrets, The Class of 1979 bids good-bye.
