FOREWORD Four years ago on a bright September morning, we entered the portals of Weaver High School a bit perplexed, mystified, and scared! Most of us were prepared to endure the challenge facing us the next four years. One thing was certain — we would all grow, learn, and mature together in the same place, under the Big Top” called Weaver. With a circus theme, the ’59 PORTAL has tried to bring out the center rings” of life at Weaver and all the different side shows” and added attractions” the school has to offer to help mold our character as young adults. We have had excellent train- Filled with Pleasant Memories

DEDICATION MISS ANITA K. ROCHE The memory of three devoted faculty mem¬ bers will always remain embedded in the minds of the Class of ’59. These three have guided, encouraged, and instructed the members of our class, giving each of themselves whole-heartedly with unceasing efforts at all times. An honorary fellow classmate! Our new Dean of Girls entered Weaver with us when we were freshmen. We grew and matured under her able guidance and saw her incessant desire to better the welfare of every Weaverite. She was always there to lend a firm and guiding hand. Her encouragement enabled us to make that extra effort. She was our untiring advisor for the Girls’ League and the Student Council. Those of us who worked with her, whether for a dance, on a committee, or as an advisor, can appreciate more fully what she has to offer to Weaver and its students. This Class will always be grateful for having had the opportunity to know and work with such a wonderful person. Clear your desks” — This familiar quote can belong to none other than the excellent history teacher with a wonderful sense of humor and a contagious smile. She has been a teacher, a counselor, and a friend to a countless number of Weaver students. The part that she has un¬ selfishly played in Weaverville — as supervisor for the Jr. Red Cross, as an assistant adviser to the Girls’ League, and as chaperone to the cheer¬ leaders — has been of extreme importance and of immeasurable value. If ever we were faced with a problem, Dear Abbey” was always there to sit down and try to solve it and talk things over. The reception line at our many school dances always found a place for this bright smil¬ ing, sparkling woman. She is truly a friend to one and all.” Still waters run deep, and in the case of this man they also run straight and true. None of 6
