MR. WILLIAM F. AITKEN Our years under the Big Top” have been wonder¬ ful and enjoyable because of our outstanding barker,” Mr. William F. Aitken. He has served all of us, trainers and trainees, untiringly and unselfishly. His understanding, patience, friendliness, and sincerity have placed him within the chrystal ball for life. He has extended a warm, helping hand under many tents” and his heartfelt guidance has been an inspira¬ tion to many. His presence at countless ringsides” has exemplified his sincere devotion to Weaver, its faculty, and the student body. In the midst of numerous tasks and responsibilities, Mr. Aitken has served as a guiding light for the Class of 1959. This is only a small token of our warm affection for our devoted principal, Mr. William F. Aitken. Greeting from Mr. Aitken It seems but yesterday that the class of 1959 came to Weaver High School — and now you are being graduated. We who remain behind look with nostalgia upon your going, realizing that yours was a fine class which made contributions of worth and signifi¬ cance to your fellows, your school, and your community. Wherever you take your place in tomorrow’s world, I hope that each of you will contribute of your great potential to a better society in which the dignity of man and the rights of people will be respected as of paramount importance. As we bid you farewell as undergraduates, we welcome you as alumni. We will follow your progress with interest and wish for each of you happiness and success and a place of honor in the better society to which you are going to make a worthy contribution. us will ever forget the devotion, perseverance, and intelligence which he displayed, not only as a teacher but also as the advisor of the Drama¬ tic Club. Those of us who were fortunate enough to be in his classes can testify to the originality and clarity that he brought to his sub¬ jects. We also learned the value of hard work, sincerity, and optimism. During those long hours of rehearsal, this modest director exempli¬ fied all the good qualities a person could have. He will always remain as a symbol of integrity and good faith which we sincerely hope to emu¬ late. His character will be continued in the lives of all those he has influenced. MISS MARIE V. DeBARTOLO MR. ALBERT V. DeBONIS Because of their deep confidence in students and their untiring willingness to help them suc¬ ceed — because of their desire to help make us better adults — and because of the marvelous memories that they leave with us, we the Class of 1959 are extremely proud and fortunate to dedicate this PORTAL to Miss Anita K. Roche, Dean of Girls, Miss Marie V. DeBartolo, history and guidance teacher, and Mr. Albert V. De- Bonis of the English department.

MR. EZRA MELROSE When the members of the class of 1959 look back upon their years at Weaver, they will recall with fond memory the name of Mr. Ezra Melrose, our vice¬ principal. His frank, sincere manner and his amiable personality have encouraged all of us to talk over our problems with him. His wide knowledge of colleges and vocations has been a factor in solving problems and in helping many seniors decide the course of their future lives. Mr. Melrose will be remembered in many situa¬ tions: in the receiving line at school dances, at the basketball and football games, and in his office coun¬ seling a perplexed student, writing college recommen¬ dations, or advising the members of the Boys’ Club. We have admired Mr. Melrose for his tireless efforts in promoting the good of Weaver High School, and we assure him that he will have a permanent place in our hearts. BOYS’ CLUB OFFICERS Seated, left to right: Lumbru- no, Romano, Dean, Dineen. Standing: Mr. Melrose, Whin- nem, Laysears, Fisher, Wise. 9
