TUDE T GOVER lVlE T 1963-1964 Lee Carey President PRE IDE T'S MESSAGE The i963-64 school year began in a rather hectic fashion. The Phillips Building was not completed on schedule, and classes had to be held in many unusual places. Conditions were crowded and frustrating, but Mr, Curran, the faculty, and the students overcame these obstacles and made the best of the situation in the true Weatherwax spirit. Things began to move smoothly when the new building was ready for use at the end of first quarter. The Senate also operated under a handicap for the first few months until it had enough time and space to conduct its meetings properly. After moving into the new lecture hall, we could use as much time as we needed. It enabled students, other than Senators, to attend Senate meetings. The Senate met every other Wednesday and whenever necessary. The Senate consists of the class presidents and four girl and four boy senators from each class, plus the Board of Control which includes the student body officers, and the Council of Girls and Boys Federation presidents. The non-voting members of the Senate include the presidents of the Golden A Club, Girls' Athletic Association, and Pep Club, plus representatives from the Ocean Breeze, Quinault, and the Judicial Committee. The Board of Control met on the Mondays before Senate and drew up the tentative agenda for each meeting. Mr. Newman served as advisor to the Senate and Board of Control, He helped us a great deal in conducting our duties. Much of the success of the Senate stems from Mr. Newman's dedicated efforts, The Pep Staff deserves special recognition for their great success ln organizing and uniting the school and stimulating perhaps the greatest amount of school spirit in our school's history. The Pep Club also helped our school spirit, especially with their many clever signs. l have received a tremendous amount of support and aid from the student body and all of its affiliated organizations. I am proud to have attended this wonderful school, and I am honored to have served as your student body president. -Lee Carey
