This year, Coach Eklund guided our Bobcats to second place in the Southwest Washington Con- ference and a victorious Turkey Day game. Aside from his fine coaching abilities, Mr. Ekluncl is an exceptional teacher. His sense of humor combined with adaptability has made him a great asset to the teaching staff. Page 70 FORE 0RD . .. ln many ways, the events of l963-64 suggest this year's Quinault theme, LIGHTS-in our country and in our school. ln early l963, the lights of peace burned more brightly with the lessening of world tensions. As the year proceeded, revolutionary sparks were ignited in Africa and in the Ear East. To Americans, l963 presented periods of light and darkness. The year began peaceably with only a few exceptions. Therewere racial conflicts, the usual stock market fluctuations, and history's longest congressional session. Cooper's extended orbitals around the Earth exhibited a bright light for U.S. progress in space. To- ward the latter part of the year, Americans were plunged into a surprising period of darkness with the shocking assassination of President Kennedy. Vice-President John- son was extremely well prepared to take up the adminis- trative torch, and the nation came out of despair with the light of his leadership. ln our school, the theme LIGHTS was exhibited physically through the addition of the Phillips Building. Scholastically, our school shone brightly with many stu- dents receiving special honors. A strong light, team spirit, was the symbol of athletics at Weatherwax this year. To include the special highlights of our school year, the Quinault has been expanded to one hundred fifty-six pages. One of the outstanding features of the 1964 Quinault is the color section. ln this section are full-color photos of memorable events of the past school year. The staff has worked very hard to make this Quinault more original in content and design. We pre- sent with pride and pleasure the Quinault of l964. Barbara Bushnell Lynn Miller Co Editors

ADlVlI ISTR T10 BEACO IJGHT Mr. Norman Newman, Vice-Principal lf the American Dream fails to mate- rialize in this century, it will be because the individual citizens is nor morally re- sponsible for his conduct nor economically responsible for his welfare. SCHO0L B0 RD Weatherwax began its i963- 64 schol year in a state of mass confusion. One entered the doors of Weatherwax to find that he had been displaced all the way up to the Fifth Street entrance of the Miller Building. Students located their classes in tumbling rooms, gymnasiums, and hallways. When October arrived, all were exceedingly happy to move into the luxurious new Phillips Building. During this period, the walls and fixtures were freshly painted and com- munications were nat good, but the students considered it a pleasure to attend classes in the lovely new surroundings. We hope that the new addition will continue to be a joy to Weatherwax students for many years to come, ff Mr. Ben Curran, Principal Education is more than the mere acqui- sition of knowledge. The test of a true education is not so much in the acquiring but in the use of it.
