FOREWORD To the average high school student, time isn't measured by a period or a season. Time to us means the date of the big game, or the days that are marked off in anticipation of the foreshadowing weekend, the impending tests, or the approaching commencement ceremony. We live in the present surrounded by daily routine and little recognize the importance of the events and activities which are so rapidly passing us by. Many of us have participated for the last time in such events, while others have seen only the beginning of those traditions. Our yearbook has its purpose in securing and then holding all of these scenes, for with the future will come the escape of these memories formulated during our high school years. One by one, they will become obscure in our minds replaced in turn by the forthcoming events of the next few years. It has been our hope that this 1960-1961 Quinault has captured and highlighted these memories. Time is not recalled by a period or season, but by the faces of friends, the thrill of winning the big game, or the sound of one's name, as diplomas are awarded on commencement day.

DEDICATION This year, 1960-61, has been our year, and surely one we will all remember. It has been a year of surprising school spirit with enthusiasm never seen before in the history of Weatherwax. This school spirit was evident every day at Weatherwax, and it has been a contributing factor to the success of the year. This was also the year preceding the retirement of two of our beloved teachers, Mr. Fenenga and Mr. Quien. Mr. Fenenga started his teaching career in Silverton, Oregon, later moving to Montesano, where he taught and coached for eight years. He came to Aberdeen in 1929. Serving as basketball and track coach for eighteen years, Mr. Fenenga was the first basketball coach to send an Aberdeen team to a state tournament in Seattle. His teaching subjects have been sociology, economics, American History, and World History. Mr. Quien worked in the automotive trades for twenty years before he began teaching in our school. He started teaching in 1940 with a schedule of six periods of Auto Mechanics, and also supervised bus transportation until 1945. He has never missed a day in twenty-one years. We join together with the student body and faculty, in complimenting these two gentlemen for jobs well done.
