STUDENT BODY PRESIDENTS MESSAGE The familiar shuffle of students between classes will soon be silenced until September. Various summer activities will, dominate the schedule. Many a river bank or lake shore will be inhabited by a reminiscent student recalling the 1960-61 school year, which has been an eventful and memorable one at Weatherwax. The school vear started with a much more active Senate supporting past activities and issuing new proposals. Student Body activity card subscriptions increased. A selling contest between the three classes based on a percentage of individual class sales was held with the losing class presenting an assembly. Some of the new proposals included a new Student Body card system, a program to sponsor a foreign exchange student, and a system to regulate academic tests, which is one of the most important proposals. Voting machines, through the courtesy of the Grays Harbor County Auditor's Office, were used in a mock national election in November, and again in May for student body elections. Student Body assemblies were well organized and entertaining. A very active, super-energized Pep Club stimulated enthusiasm during assemblies and sporting events with pep banners, posters and booster buttons. A special thanks is extended to the local and professional guests for their participation in our special assemblies. The band, orchestra, choir, dance band and glee club presentations of the annual Christmas, Swing, and Spring concerts were accepted by enthusiastic audiences with varied moods set to music. Recognition should be given the hard working Ocean Breeze staff, the Quinault personnel for their superior standards and quality, the Student Lounge, Lunch Room, Welcoming Dance, and Hall Traffic Committees, and the C.O.G. for their addition of the apple machine. Public service activities sponsored by the Senate and Board of Control members included the Thanksgiving baskets and the Sunshine Kids contributions. Student Body public service funstions were the March of Dimes and the World Clothing Drive. As Student Body president, I would like to thank the other members of the Board of Control, the Senate, and students, for their continued support and interest in promoting school affairs. I am sure the effectiveness of this year's Senate will be felt at Weatherwax for years to come by both the students and faculty. —7—
