SOPHOMORE CLASS H I STORY On September Z l94l we started our Sophomore year un Hugh School There were fufty two pupuls In our class Mr Weur was the new member of the faculty As the year progressed several students left school and Mr Weur also left to enter the servuce of our country Mr Lauer replaced Mr Weur Our homeroom teachers were Mr Wuleman for the gurls and Mr Rutter for the boys On October 3l the Freshmen were welcomed to Weatherly Hugh School Everyone present enjoyed humself Dr Barker spoke to us on the pruncupals of health and rught luvung Hus talk was contunued un the evenung and one half of hus auduence was made up of school pupuls We had a very successful soccer team thus year but not successful enough Weatherly and East Mauch Chunk were tued for the champuonshup The play off was held November 5 at Nuremberg East Mauch Chunk defeated Weatherly 2 to O The boys representung our class un thus sport were Wul luam Younker Harry Hensel Elmer Huttung r and John and Warren Seugen a On December 7 l94l those Sons of Heaven the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor In one of the most surprusung events of our hustory War was declared on Japan December 8 and on December 9 we declared war on Germany and ltaly Durung the course of the year we experuenced a few practuce aur rand alerts Our basketball season started early an December Durung the course of sentlng us un thus sport were Edward Muller and Wulluam Younker We had our mud year exams January 22 and 23 On these two days many of our teachers dnscovered some of our famous Bluffers We had a twelve day Chrustmas and New Year vacatuon thus year ln May our annual Gym exhubutuon was held un the gymnasuum and on the 29th of the same month our school closed FRESHMAN HISTORY We started school as Freshmen on Sept mber 7 l94O Our homeroom teachers were Mr Wuleman and Muss Hardy We were unutuated unto the Hugh School as full fledged members on the memorable nught of October 23 We all pulled through nucely Some members of our class were workung hard for our soccer team Wul luam Younker was the only one that was on the team We had quute a few representatuves on the Junior Varsuty team Wulluam Younker Edward Muller Frank Yeude Earl Hensel Harry Hensel John and Warren Seugendall Durung the year Mr Muller and Muss Hardy left our faculty Their places were taken by Mr Dunger and Muss Scott We entered unto our mud year exams on January 23 and 24 and held good account for ourselves The annual exhubutuon was held on May l4 and on June 4 we were relueved to see Mr Hartz close the doors for three enyoyable months I I ' . , . , . , . CLASS PROPHECY Junel I 54 Dear Dlary Today I returned to my old Alma Mater for a class reur-lon A lrttle over ren years ago today thnrty fnve classmates and I received our dnplomas and set out to seek our fortunes As I walked Into the gym I met Regsna Costello who told me all the dnrt ot my former classmates Have you heard of all the partnershnps formed from our cIass9 Take for Instance Jane Gregory and Frank Yelde working together In Yelde s old bakery down on Carbon Street Mlllle Achey the wautress at the bakery and Warren Gerhart the Iceman chat at the back door every mornlng over the troublesome customers The Nelfert I-amer shock chlcken farms produce the chuckens for the restaurants Sunday dun ners Another thrlvlng partnershlp ID town IS the Weatherly Beauty Salon Otto Barbush and Austin Blrd manage the Men s Department 60 cents for a shave and a halrcut Dolores Pakola and Madelyn Barbush are In the Ladies Dlvn stan three :tems for one dollar Dagger Muller marrued that redhead and IS resldung In Audenrerd where hrs place of busuness IS also located If you entered Weatherly from the eas you couldn t help notncung the ultra modern nnght club on East Mann Street The architect was Word n Nyer who has become much lnveluer than he was an school and the buulders were the Sengendall brothers As you enter the club you are welcomed by Susan Warner the senior hostess You are then shown to your table by a junlor hostess Trna Montz Laverne Gaurrter or Margaret Eroh An e'a'n crate floor show IS presented weekly featurnng Mltts I-Ilttlnger and h band wnth Edlth Thrash and Mary Screenock as vocallsts On the second floor of the club us the ca :no whlch IS managed by John Leppler Jean Hunkle and Loretta Henry cnrculat around the club selling clgars cugarettes etc to patrons The farmers Ruth Fadden and Jennre Reed wlth theur spouses are reg ular patrons ofthe club Weatherlys Cat and Dog I-losputal ns establushed In Weatherly on the road to I-Iudsondale Jane Peltz IS supervlsor with Kathleen Mack and Dausy Falrchuld as asslstants It Your cat or dog has an allrnent see thelr specnalnsts Marlorle Wrsler and Bull Fnelds have opened a bowling alley next to the fare house To patrons they guarantee a score of over 58 On the sate of the former Weatherly Herald now stands the town s danly paper The Weatherly Cruer The papers assistant editor ns Margaret Kraynak The reporters who brnng In the scandal of the town are Gladys Young Carol Pfentfer and Irene Kunkel A short time after I heard all the news from Reguna the reunlon program started and I hurrled to my seat and renewed acquamtances wrth those around me Gee Duary It was nlce to know how all the boys and gurls of the Class of 44 succeeded , 9 . , , ' 1 ' 1 1 11 ' 11 - - - - 1 1 . . , . . . . . . , 1 I 1 ' . .
