WEATHERLY HIGH SCHOOL MOUNTAIN LEAGUE CHAMPS The strongest basketball team ever chosen to represent Weath erly un basketball competltuon entered the Mountaun League season wlth four vnctorles out of enght games In the exhubntlon sea son Durnng the exhrbltuon games the team showed teamwork that was destvned to provide a very brrght future Startnng Mountain League com petition on January 3rd Weath erly s tall boys swept through all competltnon on the long end of the score Fans who predicted at the beglnnlng of the season that thls mlght be Weatherly s year were not dlsappounted for the boys swept through the furst half undefeated the closest game beung wuth East Mauch Chunk the score beung 29 25 The second half progressed much an the same manner but due to a stroke of fate the team lost to East Mauch Chunk 36 34 forcing With the loss of thear center Warren Selgendall due to an appendncltls operatuon and guard Pete Garber who suffered a sernous hand unlury ln the East Mauch Chunk game Weatherly with two capable substitutes defeated Nuremberg 35 32 In the furst playoff game at the West Hazleton Hugh Gym The loss of these two boys showed disastrous effects durlng the game wuth East Mauch Chunk at Lansford the game going to East Mauch Chunk 35 Zl On March 3rd at West Hazleton with Pete Garber back ln the lnneup Weathely came back fnghtung and won the fsrst Mountain League Champlon shup for the school but more so for their Army bound coach Mr C J Mur ray who was leavnng for camp the next morning The boys put theur hearts and souls unto the game and emerged vlctoruous by a score of 37 30 I - I I , . . . , Il I ll - , I I I I ' I ' ' l I the league into a three-way tie for the second half pennant. . .
