Curtis is completing his fifth year as Principal of Weatherford High School. He helps the students whenever they need help or guidance, and tries to help the students make the right decisions in the different phases of school life. He emphasizes the importance of high school and the ways the students can better themselves by mak- ing the best of it. Times when he is especially helpful are in pre-registration and in aiding pupils to choose the right college that will meet specific needs. Mr. Curtis has helped many students attain their goals in life, and there are many times when they will say Thank you, Mr. Curtis. On March 2-6, the Student Council partic- ipated in Public Schools Week. March 9-T4 was observed as Student Council Week. Projects for the year included the election of Student and Teacher of each week, operating the supply store, and the sponsoring of fire drills. The year 1958 saw a new organization, the DECA Club, come into being in Weatherford High School. DECA stands for Distributive Education Clubs of America. This organization consists of those enrolled in Distributive Education, a new course in the curriculum. The first event of the year was the organizational meeting. The DECA club -participated in the sale of Kangaroo Pens, entered a float in the Christmas Parade on December 8, spon- sored a Christmas Party and Dance on December I8, and held local contests on February I7. The State Convention and Contests were held at the Texas Hotel in Fort Worth February 27-28. Contestants from the local club were, Speech Contest, Bill Hudson, Job Interview, Janet Dickey, and Sales Demonstration, Sandra Byrnes. D. E. The cheerleaders devoted many hours of time to their task. They' attended the cheerleader school at Southern Methodist University during the summer in order to furnishlthe student body with the new yells for the season. Lights burned late on Thursday nights in the auditorium as the cheerleaders prepared for the Friday morning pep rallies. Under the sponsorship of Mrs. Virginia McKenzie, the cheerleaders had the conces- sion stand at the B team football games and led cheers at the basketball games. Raymond Schoenke went over from five yards out, Ernie Brawley went seven yards up the middle for a touchdown, and Rains coun- tered a second time to end the scoring for the 'Roos.
