The members of the Senior class of XY. H. S. never fully realized that graduation was upon them until late this spring. For two-thirds of their lives they had looked forward to it dimly, thinking of Commencement as an end of teachers, books, and discipline and a time when they would at last stop being school kids and become young men and women. But when Mr. Lee and Mrs. johnson began to measure them for caps and gowns and when they had to line up for their last picture together, 1 J f ' ' - ' Q 'X 4 r X SQZHL S 1- i they suddenly found that there was lots to be done, lots to remember, and very little time. lt would have been stuffy to get sentimental, so when Carol Caunt, class secretary, brought out his panoramic camera, Myra Sofford and jerry Hamburger posed obediently while Eldon Folks and Thomas Sykes, class president and vice-president, heckled the group from the side steps. An honest to goodness business session of the officers with the sponsors, Mr. Brady and Mrs. Leach, got under way last 15 1 -M M f- 55' 'L I I fall to lay plans for the biggest and best juniorbsenior banquet ever. Here, D'jiela Brady, concession manager for the class, checks with Mrs. Leach to see if enough funds are available while Doretta Perkins anxiously awaits the outcome. This stellar halfback and defensive guard scored nine touchdowns the last two games-Hve against Sayre and four against Hinton. During the season he was the teams be. runner and the most successful pass receiver. He was one of the best backs in this area, and when all-distri honors were passed out, Benetield was named all district fullback. Captain Francis Benefield, the only regular from last year's strong eleven back in Eagles togs this yea' i . , 4 I Algy Hadly, guard who had not been out for football prior to this season, also was chosen on tl all district team. f e ' ' ,v Q- 2, f A-asgttwp uf,-v .v 1 fi! Business Manager Wherever or whenever there was a ball game, a contest, or even an election, the W. H. S. Band was nearby to give its support. The band is one organization that is active during the entire school year. During the football season it entertained spectators at half time. Among the marching and playing stunts presented were: A Square Dance, given with the help of the Thomas Pep Club, Harvest Moon, assisted by the W. H. S. Pep Club, and The Parade of the Armed Forces, honoring Weatherford's own Battery C of the Forty- fifth Division of the National Guard. The band gave two concerts during the year: the annual concert in january and the Open House concert in May. Between Thanksgiving and Christmas the band played each Wednesday for Weatherford's Trade Day. In the three contests entered last spring-District, Waurika Festival, and State -the band won excellent ratings. The highlight of the year was the trip to Wichita Falls, Texas, to attend the day's festivities at Midwestern University's Homecoming. arf: I T FIRST ROXY.
