Things Most Liked About WHS Gotta keep on dancin' with these happy fectll Wayako took a survey among students at WHS asking them to list the five things that they liked most and disliked most about WHS. Here is what students said they liked most. I. Friends 3. Alter school activities 3. Dances (including Prom) 4. Lunch 5. The pool????? Heart Week 1986 Love Me Do. Hear I Week: a lime of excitement, a lime of chaos. It really breaks up the blahs of winter and puts some spice in our lives. It's the mystery of a secret admirer or watching your friends turn beet red when they gel a kiss o gram or stng-o-gram. Heart Week was again put on by the members of the National Honor Society. This group of students worked very hard during Heart Week. They started planning lor the week-long event in December, when they selected a theme and the favored charities. This year's theme was love Me Do and the charities were the American Cancer Society and Minnesota Make-A-Wtsh. The American Cancer Society does research on cancer - not necessarily to prevent it. but how to fight it and work against the odds. Mmnesota-Make-a-Wish is a unique charily in that it is directed only to children (18 yrs. or younger) with terminal illnesses. All of its staff members are volunteers and it receives its funds from donations and contributions. Minnesota-Make-A-Wish extends its services to those children who seek them out. The organization grants the children any wish they desire (within the boundaries of the planet Earth). Such wishes can vary from a Cabbage Patch doll, to a trip to Disneyland, to a handshake with Pete Rose. Last year’s total contributions amounted to J7.500. a total that seemed hard to beat, according to Connie Lewis. Student Activities Director. This year, however, the students at WHS really outdid themselves. They raised about $8.SOO The swim-a-lhon and royally collections together took in a total of J6.8fS.3J. In addition to these two money-raising activities there were the sales of buttons, candy, carnations, sing-o-grams. computer dating lists, raffle tickets, and the ever-popular kiss-o grams. Some of the activities included a Monday morning kick-off Heart Week assembly where the royalty was introduced. The match of the week was Harold Tren and Andrea Newntark who met on WHS's version of the Dating game. A new tradition of Heart Week started this year- a Heart Week breakfast. Many WHS students managed to roll out of bed and come to school at 600 A.M. to eat doughnuts and see Mike Schwarz's classic impersonation of Mr. Lewis as a teenager. Another possible tradition that brought people to the breakfast was the Love Lines - little messages sent to present potential valentines. Thurday was also the day the Blood Mobile visited our school. This year the students and faculty parted with 140 pints of their precious plasma. On Friday the students and faculty really had it out in the volleyball game. The teachers wafted away with a victory in the first game, but the students had a strong comeback -winning 15 to 8 - in the second game. There wasn't enough time to break the tie so the class of '87 will have to prove that the students are the best. Eric Mitchell, the biggest winner of the raffle, took home the VCR. Later that evening, many people showed up in their finest attire at the high school cafeteria for the Heart Week I Want to Hold Your Hand semi-formal dance. Each day had a different theme Monday. Grubs dayi Tuesday. Duds dayi Wednesday. Arena Day and Haircuts day • Mayann's of Wayzata gave $5 haircuts to WHS students and donated all the money to th charities. Thursday was Red and White day and Friday was Fun-in-the-sun Safari-day. Everybody seemed to be having fun and getting into the spirit of the week. Heart Week '86 was a tremendous success for both the students and the charities. Steve Meade is so charming and debonair when it comes to giving kisses.
