Each class had a float which was appropriate for their decade, except the sophomores who did not enter a float in the parade. The seniors rode a float which was a ‘‘speak-easy and wore 20’s attire. The juniors had a float with a jukebox which played 50's music for their decade. The drama department and marching band also entered floats and they tied for the winning float. Besides the floats, the band, cheerleaders, and Trojets marched in front of the royalty, who rode in cars. The senior class speak-easy. 8 Drama members “acted as it they were roasting hornets. Webster's dictionary defines powderpuff as a soft pad used to apply powder to the skin, but we know that they are wrong. Powderpuff is a very serious football game with tremendously dedicated teams. The senior and junior girls train long, hard hours for this special game, and the cheerleaders and Trojets put in their hours too. Powderpuff is a very important part of the homecoming activities and is also a really fun tradition. The seniors dominated the game with a touchdown and a two-point conversion, making the score 8-0 with the seniors on top. The Powderpuff Trojets performed, royalty candidates were announced during halftime, and the Powderpuff Cheerleaders entertained the crowd throughout the game. 12 Forget Powderpuff — we're ready for the NFL! Hey. Chris, don't you think you'd walk better with your eyes OPEN? Senior players put their best teet forward. Stephanie Collins and Linda Gmsbach SECIJPS The Student Voice The Student Council is made up of elected representatives from each class. The people in the Student Council have many responsibilities. They attend school board meetings to give the students' views. They organize many activities within the school and they are also involved in the community. This year they organized fund drives for the Spinal Cord Foundation, the Cancer Foundation, and the Christmas food drive for the poor. The Student Council showed their concern about the levy referendum this year by campaigning. Without the Student Council, we would have no Prom, dances, sophomore magazine sales, or other school activities. The Student Council is a very important group within our student body. The main duty of the NHS is Heart Week. Heart Week is fun but its main purpose is not all fun; it is to raise money for the Children's Heart Fund. The Children's Heart Fund uses this money for life-saving heart operations for children who could not have otherwise afforded to have them. This year the NHS raised more money than ever by selling buttons, carnations, sing-o-grams. kiss-o-grams. raffle tickets, and a phenomenal amount of suckers. Other duties of the NHS include sophomore orientation and holding a tea for new members in the spring. NHS president Jackie Hoover decides to try her luck and buy some rattle tickets from Pam Boorsma. w NHS Officers President Jackie Hoover. Will Cohen. Reporting on such complex and important issues as the levy referendum and beginning the year with a relatively inexperienced staff, the Trojan Tribune certainly had its work cut out for it! However, as the staff worked together to overcome proofreading (ugh!), pictorial, deadline, and censorship problems, they succeeded in producing an open and lively paper. This talented staff was also able to achieve their dual goals of reporting the news accurately and objectively and serving the students with a better voice. It was truly a year of which to be proud!! It is something to help you remember all of the good times that you had during the year and something to look back on in the future. That is why we chose the theme Looking Forward to Looking Back. We hope that you will enjoy looking back on this book because we did our best to make it for you. Many long, hard hours of work went into the planning of Homecoming and it was a great success. Balloon sales were a new attraction this year and of course there were button sales. The committee also had the difficult task of deciding whether to keep the dance formal this year or change it to an informal dance. After great consideration they decided upon an informal dance which was not a popular decision with everyone, but they felt that it was the right one. Those Were The Days was the theme for the week and each class was assigned a decade from which to dress and create a float. The Seniors were 20’s, the Juniors were 50‘s, and the Sophomores were 60’s. The week was a great success and the whole student body wishes to thank the committee for a job well done. Homecoming Committee: Row 1: Andrea Spalla, Beth Fjelstul. The Corps was organized by Student Activities Advisor Connie Lewis for two purposes: (1) To provide valuable services to the school and community and (2) to fulfill the need of students who want to be involved in school activities but have not had the opportunity to do so in the past. With hard work and a little luck, chances are that this dedicated but relatively unknown group of students will grow into a larger and even more successful organization! The debate team offers a great chance for a student to develop skills to support an argument. The debate team, though a young one this year, was very successful. There were four juniors debating at the championship (or varsity) level and they all made it to the semi-finals at Gustavus Adolphus College. Scholarships are awarded to outstanding members of the organization and the group shares in its own profits. 47 PM Vo-Tech Vo-Tech Every morning and afternoon one can see the migration of students from their classes. These students are in Vo-Tech, a program which sends them to Hennepin Technical Centers to learn about subjects which are not offered at our school. It takes a lot of dedication to be a member of the line; almost every day they practice for two hours teaching and perfecting dances. It is tough work to prepare to dance at various school events such as football, soccer, basketball, hockey, and wrestling. The Trojets provide entertainment at these events and add a lot of school spirit to them. Aside from dancing for the school events, they must also create three new dances a year just for competitions. This year they attended competitions at Norwood. Apple Valley. The cheerleaders really put in a lot of work throughout the year to add school spirit to our games, pep fests, and everyday school life. No one was disappointed, as the team went on to a 10-4-2 record. While outscoring their opponents 33 to 13. the team compiled Wayzata’s best goals-for and goals-against averages. But even more important was the impressive unity and self-motivation that the team displayed under the leadership of Coach Tom Snicker. The offense was diligent and patient enough to score the important goals when they were needed, and the defense was strong, never losing by more than one goal and never allowing more than two goals in a match, while getting six shutouts.
