Pep Fests and Assemblies Sacrificial Offering Occasionally, during the course of the year, the inmates of cell block 284 were released, under heavily-armed guard, to attend assemblies and strange events called Pep Fests. The purpose of the assemblies, it is rumored was to bring culture to the deprived inmates. The Pep Fests were ... well, everyone needs a good laugh once in a while. Then there were always those unscheduled events (talk of bombs, etc.) which brought a bit of excitement. 112 Thi it the only way to twim in (aka Minnetonka I The Mappers Beth Ronning, Lee Virgilio, TwiUh Anderson, Chris Streeter, and Debi Sampson. Impromptu, a play of two men and two women called to create a play without a script and without a director. Under this situation each person was forced to examine his own worth, abilities, and motives. Under the direction of Fraser Bigelow, each person maintained their characters and aided the viewer to examine himself while examining the play and its components. Donna Barnard 115 Curt Swonion Spoon River Anthology On two mysterious nights in November, the ambitious drama students gave an excellent performance of Spoon River Anthology, a play which was originally a collection of poems written at the turn of the twentieth century by American poet Edgar Lee Masters. Director Pat Sheehy composed his own version of the play by taking Master's individual poems and combining them. Spoon River was Master's hometown, and most of the people he writes about in his poems are people he knew when he lived there. These people, now deceased, tell of their lives, inter-relationships, and their deaths. The story made up a sort of pre-Peyton Place, and consisted of about as many complexities: there were sixty-eight characters portrayed by only twelve actors and actresses which necessitated five to six costume changes for each person. Approximately one hundred lighting changes were required. The efforts of the cast and crews provided an enjoyable production for all who attended the performance. Football ’69 Despite many heart breaking losses by one touchdown, the Wayzata football team had a very successful year. There existed a new enthusiasm and dedication from the team and, as a consequence, a new wealth of spirit from the fans. The basketball squad this year was far from an experienced unit, in that three of the five starters were underclassmen. For this reason the team failed to come together until late in the season. Their scrapping and running game provided the spectators with much entertainment even though the Trojans came out on the short end of the score often. Although the season has ended, it leaves behind an experienced core of underclassmen. With these prospects Wayzata can look forward to next year with more optimism than past years. A yearbook can often give the impression that the school year is a tightly scheduled, slotoly ticking time bomb that finally explodes in June. That's partly true, but during the course of a year, many things happen which come under no specific heading, at no scheduled time, and which are hardly ever predictable. Some are little, seemingly unimportant incidents; some are everyday occurrences contributing greatly to the experience known as High School. Who can forget walk-outs . . . sit-ins . . .
