Sophomores Sock It To ’Em Tho Class of 71 quickly got into tho groove of things. They contributed greatly to school spirit. In fact, thoir Homecoming float took second place. After they had adjusted to high school, they began to earn money for their prom by selling magazine subscriptions, with a profit of $900! During this time it was not unusual to see Sophomores with red and white hats, carrying small meg- aphones. intimidating teachers and upperclassmen with a sales pitch. This year's Sophomores were also the first to use team-type system for their history and math classes. Their easy adjustment to a new environment and their great spirit indicate their ability to accept future responsibilities. 16 SOPHOMORE CLASS OFFICERS: V.P. Pal Monahan. Sec. Cindy Raun. Pres. Led by the class officers, they achieved the impossible by meeting their prom goal long before Christmas. Several of their moneymaking projects wore new innovations. A large portion of their goal was met with tho profits from a basketball game featuring the Wayzata Old-timers (alias The Faculty) against the Harlem Diplomats. The sale of caramel apples after school also helped to boost their finances. Industrious Juniors could be seen selling candy at the home basketball games. These projects, along with the profit from their sale of Zip Code Directories as Sophomores, well covered the expenses of Prom. The Juniors have played an important role in school activities. Their willingness to cooperate and their ability to get things done have helped stimulate lagging school spirit. The make-up of our teams, especially of our basketball and hockey teams, has been comprised of a large number of Juniors. Our team records could vastly improve with these experienced players next year. The Class of 70 has ployed an active and vital part at Wayzata this year. You Bet Your Sweet Bippy We’re Going So much a long communion tends To make us what we are—even I Regained my freedom with a sigh. —Lord Byron The Class of 69 leaves the halls of Way-zata with mixed feelings. Graduation is looked on as the opening of the door, our chance to finally get out. We tell each other we ll never come back and that we're glad to get the hell out; it's over. But Wayzata. its lunches, its apple machine, its teachers, its leaky roof, and its multi-colored passes have left permanent marks on all of us. Maybe it’s for the good and maybe it's for the bad. but these past three years have played a large part in making us what we are today. Now, we'll each go our separate ways. some to study, some to work, some to conform, and some to rebel. Our 'sighs' may not come now. all at once; they will come many years from now. The little things will bring back memories of pancake contests and of nights-before-term-paper-due. of football games and of psychedelic dances. We’ll laugh when we remember and as we grow older these years will become the good old days. But for now, we're on our way. We re going out to leave our mark on the world and maybe to have the world leave its mark on us. Full of ideas and beliefs, we feel we can change anything, want everything, and we are ready now to go out and get it. 42 School's out, school's out, teacher let the monkeys out... We soon realized that the 8:00 2:30 routine was only a small part of the total scene . . . these moods are our methods of reflecting the year— Motivation, Depression, Satisfaction, and Frustration. Motivating moments included Diane Young making an announcement . . . the sight of a tempting fire alarm . . . and the loud, fast drumbeat in the halls on Friday morning. But when the junior team teachers began passing out more books . . . the yellow slip came for you from the office ... or the day before your research paper was due, you realized you didn't have a topic yet, a touch of depression was felt. Some times were satisfying, however . . . when girls learned they could occasionally wear slacks to school . . . seniors anticipated a symposium ... a green slip came from the counselor ... or Linda Jondahl began knitting another dress. Regardless, frustration somehow managed to work its way into nearly everything we did . . . finding ashes on the toilet seat . . . trying to write one of Mr. Weyer’s Spanish essay tests ... or trying to explain to your yearbook advisor that you just can't meet the deadline. Maybe you've suffered or enjoyed some of these moods during this year ... if you don't recognize any of the situations, you might recognize a familiar face. Two new swimming pools opened at the Junior Highs: plans for a new elementary school were finalized: but the most interesting characteristic of the year was the dialogue (or lack of it) carried on between representatives of the Board of Education and members of the faculty. Negotiator, impasse, arbitration panels became 'in things' for the 68-69 school year. Both board members and teachers sat across the table from each other for lengthy sessions, but neither spoke. The communication prob'em was an obvious hang-up within generations as well as between them. Col. Robert Elliot served his first term as Board Chairman. Other officers were: Arthur Bauer. Vice Chairman: Mrs. Jean Mitchell. Clerk; and John Fischer. Treasurer. Other directors were: William Jones. Rev. David Lindblom. and Mrs. Frances Sternal. Dr. Robert Snyder. Superintendent of Schools, worked directly with the Board to supervise the activities of the District's student population that grew to 5800. Dr. Robert D. Out on the field eleven hard hitting guys were trying to grind out a victory in a season that seemed to hold nothing but losses. Coach Jim Graven's Woyzata eleven showed its stuff in their (30-12) win over Crosby-1 ronton, the team that later became champions of their conference. The Trojans defense hit the line hard: the offense ran well, with three fast underclassmen at the helm. Despite this, and the great victory in the season's second game, the Trojans never got the chance to follow that start with a winning streak. No matter how hard they fought the Trojans just didn't seem to have the final drive to get the ball over the goal line. Even so. there was no lack of school spirit for this season saw the biggest crowds in the past two years. The co-captains of this year's eleven were Rebby Bowman and John Darby. Other maior awards were presented to Rebby Bowman (Coaches' Award). John Darby (Vic Johnson Award).
