196S WAVflKC) You've lived with the professors And they've all liked your looks; With great lawyers you've discussed lepers and crooks. You’re very well read—it's well known. But something is happening here And you don't know what it is Do you Mr. Jones? Sound familiar—or if not the lyrics, the message? It's Bob Dylan and it’s what’s happening; tell it like it is. This is it. sometimes good, sometimes bad. like never before. And it’s here—NOW. For the times they are a'changing. And we, at WHS are a part of this change. This is a change that encompasses many different things. Everything from the wild, the far-out, and the bizarre, to the restricted. Psychedelic clothes and flickering strobes contrast the appearance of Minnesota Poets, closed circuit TV, and the crea- tion of a student art gallery. The change is exposure to new ideas and philosophies—a time for hard introspection of the self. It is a time for the seeking of stability in the confused, chaotic world. In one respect it is race, poverty, prejudice, Viet Nam, religion; and in another it is the educational process, the social scene, finals, term papers, SAT’s, clothes, money, college, country clubs, popularity, status, and self. It is I. it is the group. And more important it is where do I go? What do I do? 2 This is the Happening— Wayzata Senior High School, 1968 rM4PPEN£D • • • AT HAPPENINGS Page 90 TO PEOPLE Page 18 TO GROUPS Page 70 TO academia Page 108 fN COMPETITION Page 144 KTU jti Tuues A Ciuin jUig But Qfmfij TwwkttoaS It is the effort of all that makes the vision of one important. Who can contain the excitement of happening? This is a yearbook: at best, a token of involvement: the complexities of an instant are far beyond the simplicity and understanding of an hour. 17 ,t T V. They were the first ones to receive the full benefits of the auditorium for a full year. A video tape machine was used in the classes to record live performances and television shows for later use. For the first time the Senior Class math class had regular access to Control Data's 3200 computer. Several trips were made to the Computer Training Center while other programs were mailed in weekly. Wayzata's Seniors joined the students of North High in an exchange which brought about a better understanding between the two groups. The football team initiated what they hoped to be an annual series between Wayzata and Crosby Ironton. Mr. Fraser's idea came to life when Wayzata presented it's first one-act play festival. For the first time Wayzata's students were treated to an exhibit depicting the greatness of Oliver Evans. Of course seniors participated in many traditional activities. Again seniors had the opportunity of listening to symposiums on pressing problems on race, poverty, and urban affairs. It is hoped that many of the fine traditions and newly initiated programs will be continued. Wayzata Seniors have left their mark. 20 Deborah Lynn Abolson Mark W. Sara Pederson TW JukX(W A TUue ofy KHa IhjCI This year’s enthusiastic Junior Class found many able leaders to take.over the reins of the departing Senior class. They met with and accepted the challenge of many new and trying experiences, backed by a class that actively participated in the school's activities. Team teaching proved the most difficult adjustment because it gave the students their first glimpse of college classroom experience. The Junior team met second hour in the new auditorium, another first for this year. In October the entire Junior class witnessed a special performance of Harper's Ferry at the Tyrone Guthrie Theater. The response to the new play was very favorable. The Juniors accepted the responsibility of financing the Prom, raising over $800 during the magazine sale alone. More money was made during the candy sale. Homecoming was a success partly because of the fine efforts of many hardworking Juniors. 46 Patti Abramson Cheryl Adler Jessie Anderberg David Anderson Mark Anderson Jean Annis Deborah Archer Connie Armstrong Donna Audctto Donald Aus Stove Averitt Cathy Baden Ro«enne Baker Carol Bakk Becky Baldwin William Ball Deborah Barnard Michael Barnard Gail Barsnoss Richard Batson Stephon Batson Anita Bauer Julie Bechtle Tom Bednar Ron Benson Steve Benson Jim Bergeson Donna Bergman Matt Berlin Cheryl Berthiaume Gaylord Berthiaumo Julie Betkor Alan Bird Victoria Birnbaum Lynn Bittner Two heads are better than one? A Tu DiscDoe uj For most Sophomores 1968 was a year of exciting experiences. Their influence was felt in many activities. Key positions on varsity teams were filled by tenth graders. Making up a majority of the cast of the fall play. Sophomores contributed greatly to the dramatics department. Their presence was also felt throughout the fields of music and art. As a class the tenth graders participated in many fields. They began earning money for their Prom by selling zip code books. Several times throughout the year their class was able to capture the spirit jug at pepfests. This year sophomores took part in a new approach to U. S. history. Throughout tho year all throe history classes met as one in tho study center. Hero they listened to lectures and saw films. This gave both students and teachers on idea of how they would adjust to team teaching next year. Sophomores have added a definite strength and vitality to our school. 58 Anthony Abelson David Aidon Scott Aldridgo David Allen Bette Anderson Jinnee Anderson John Aodorson John Scott Anderson Kerry Anderson Richard Anderson Stephan Anderson Steven Anderson Vickie Andorscn David Arnoldy Robert Bokken Scott 8ammann Nancy Barnes Nora Berobs Bonnie Bauer Gary Beckers LuAnne Bell Ann Bendickson 8arbara Bonnott Sandra Benson Jeff Bergstrom Jeon Be-'thiaumo Nolo Borthioumo Susan Berthiaumo Bruce Bittnor William Blackmarr Joseph Blauvclt Richard Blauvclt Steven Bogema Thomas Bonhiver Mark Bowors And then ho what? TtojftiiS Decease f-fftags Tougfi Coach Jim Graven's football team battled through another long, frustrating season. As usual, the Trojan defense was tough. Despite the margins of some final scores, every opponent left the field with a healthy respect for the tenacity of the defensive unit. The defense was sparked by the team's most valuable player choice, Dayton Berg, at middle guard: all conference selection Jake Cadwallader at tackle: and linebacker, Jeff Rice. The offense was led by the passing of quarterback Bill Scheller and the pass catching of ends Don Anderson, Dave Leuer, Bob Simmons, and Rick Swenson. The blocking of Cadwallader and Berg, paced the line. Outstanding junior prospects are guard John Darby and defensive half Allan Hannura. Mr. Freeberg, honored advisor, thank you not only for keeping the staff from each other's throats, but also for the gentle greeting, Well, hello there. Aren't you on the yearbook staff? Oh hallowed executive staff. Thanks to Ruth for endless proof sheets, pictures, and cheeseburgers in the dark room. Keep your shirt on Ruth. To Bonnie for piles of triplicates, French-fries and consultations at the club. To Greg for soliciting a record amount of money, and for knowing exactly what is happening. To Bob. climb out of that locker you coward. At least I didn't drown you in developer. I find it hard to believe that heads never rolled among the picture grubbing section heads. Val and Dave never came to blows, Nancy finally filled her pages with rye crisp. Bob and Betsy got their two extra pages. Pudge finally got his triplicates transferred, and Wendy and Karen never once drossed Mr. Freeberg. And finally. thanks to all the unofficial staff members for the leg and finger work, and long hours necessary for the completion of this monument to the senses. 168 Bonni McCannol Greg Hamilton Bob Lopez Ruth Sobering Well, the pub will be empty without Garbett to jump out of closots. Vicki and Dave in their corner, and the talent show during lunch. Yes Biss, thanks to the Wayako staff, our yearbook will have more than one page. —Dusty Mr. Don Froeborg and Dan Glcajon
