Presentation This is your book of memories of the school year, 1956 and 1957. This has been an important year in American History. Many unforgettable events have come to pass which will always remain, recorded in the chronicles of time. Despite the turmoil on the world scene, America has remained the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave. She has retained her position of dignity, equality and liberty. This is our country, and we pay her our homage. WE ARE LOYAL AMERICANS! Oklahoma! This is her birthday year. Fifty years of progress and development from Teepees to Towers have passed since she first became a state. Her achievements have been phenomenal in in her first half century. We are proud to be her sons and daughters. WE ARE LOYAL OKLAHOMANS! The year 1956 and 1957 has seen many changes In Waynoka High School. New teachers have been added to our staff. Some teachers will make this year their last at W.H.S. A promising group of Seniors will leave this phase of life for college, employment, marriage, or the Armed Services. We sincerely hope that when you Seniors become alumni, you will continue to stand behind our school, and help the faculty and students to uphold the principles and traditions of which our school is proud. May you always feel a wave of pride when you hear the school song; and may the strains of 'T've Been Working On the Railroad always bring back happy memories. Turn the pages and visit again W.H.S. CHARLES BENSON - Qass History One bright, sunny morning in September, 1945, thirty-tive red-eyed boys and girls were gathered In the First Grade room of Waynoka Grade School. Miss Cypher and Miss Dean wel- comed Warren Bosley, Jeannette Coury, Frank Buck, Janice Clemence, Judy Kysar, Dick Curtis, Patti Sue Gooch, Wayne Clackwell, Mickey Ketchum, Billie Miller, Mary Ann Harris, Frances McMannimum, Carol Jean Ferguson, Juanita Chelf, Terry Hutchinson, Charles King, Glenn De- Vilbiss, Jimmy Knox, Keith Springer, Stella Sabedra, Jesse Ramirez, Wanda Smith, Joyce Win- decker, Terry Olson, Jane Synder, Yvonne Patton, Cristina Valencia, Mary Reyes, Phyllis Star- buck, Donna Smith, Sandra Russell, Robert Patton, Carol Rauch, Grable Ramirez, Pat Urban, Verlin Woolly, Dennis Silvertooth. As we look back on it now, it was really a soft year. The boys made paper airplanes and the girls giggled. We all survived our first year and went back as second graders. We gained Betty Cleckner and Stephen Kurtz. Mrs. Goranflo was our third grade teacher and helped us stage a very successful play, Hiawatha. This was the social event of the year. We gained Simon Jones, Glenn i Jones, Jim Landrith, Clara Ealey, and Jackie Stimpson. As fourth graders we gained Jane Hull, Lewis Reed, Charles Benson, Gale Perclval, Lois Zook and Madeline Fritsch. This was the year when Warren Bosley was taller than Sam Silvertooth and how well we can remember It! During our fifth year we gained Johnny James, Rose Marie Coury, Janetta Zook, Judith Urban, and Delores Mendoza. A bunch of the older students started to write love notes until things began to get too serious. In the sixth grade our class totaled 42. We gained Dale Beshires, Willetha Fletcher, and Jane Snyder. This was the year that the boys were flipping coins to see who would be the brave one to go after the bubble gum at the filling station. During die seventh grade Mr. Odgen and Mr. Walker were our sponsors. This was a gay year for us because at last we were in Junior High School. This year we gained Thome Romeo Stallings, and Nancy Cook. We shall all remember this year quite vividly because this was the year that we had our first hayrack ride to Cottonwood, at night. In the eighth grade we gained David Barnhill. And too, we must not forget Board Psychology Deaton. Now we were rulers of the Junior High School. In the ninth grade we gained Carolyn Rawson, Bette Boland, Kenneth Johnson, and Ted Harmon. Our ninth grade was like a story with a surprise ending. The surprise was that we were all promoted to high school. Our sponsors were Mrs. Veley and Mr. Lash. In May 1954, we had both our Freshman and Ninth Grade Promotion. It is now time to enter the great Senior High School. As we walk through the halls we are reminded that it is time for the sophomore initiation. The boys caught both barrels, unofficially, this year. But when we look at it. it was a lot of fun. This year we gained Jane Snyder, and Dale Beshires. Our junior year we elected Mrs. Briggs and Mr. Treece for our sponsors. We were busy the whole year preparing for the Junior Play and Junior-Senior Banquet and Prom. The name of the play was Deadly Ernest and for the banquet we had a Hawaiian theme. This year we gained Wanda and Donna Smith. It is now time to become the kings and queens of our school system. We have taken the throne with great pride. Many of us are planning ahead. Some are thinking of jobs, others of marriage, and still others of the further education. Our Senior Day at Alva was held on March 29, 1957. For our senior play we selected a comedy. Once again the biggest event of the year was the Junior-Senior Banquet and Prom. This was the going away present to us seniors from the Juniors. Our Baccalaureate is to be held May 19. This year we gained Janice Beck making a total of 39 victorious seniors to graduate on the 23rd day of May, nineteen hundred and fifty-seven A.D. The graduating seniors are: Janice Beck, Carol Mae Carberry, Juaneta Chelf, Janice Clemence, Nancy Cook, Jeannette Coury, Clara Ealey, Carol Ferguson, Madeline Fritsch, Pattie Gooch, Jane Hull, Judy Kysar, Delores Mendoza, Yvonne Patton, Grable Ramirez, Carolyn Rawson, Mary Reyes, Stella Sabedra, Phyllis Starbuck, Judith Urban, Patti Lu Gillham, Christina Valencia, Betty Walker, Lois Zook, Warren Bosley, Frank Buck, Dick Curtis, Ted Harmon, Johnny James, Kenneth Johnson, Mickey Ketchum, Charles King, Bill Miller, Terry Olsan, Dennis Silvertooth, Max Sims, Thorne Stallings, Richard Wilson, and Verlin Woolley. James Seaman. The process that the school paper goes through is partially depicted in the snap, below. First, all the articles must be written, counted, and typed in the rough. Then, they are classified and paged. Each staff member is assigned to several pages. It is then his duty to dummy the page. After his dummy is proofread and okayed, he stencils the page. The stencil is proofread, and any mistakes are corrected. Then the art work is put on the stencil, and it is mimeographed. After all the pages are mimeographed and compiled, they are stapled, and the paper is completed. Due credit must be given to Mrs. Wrenchey. Under her direction the staff has made many improvements on the former style of publi- cation.
