the evening, and gratefully I accepted. We toured the town in Eddie's Thunderbird, and it sounded like thunder Apparently, he hadn't forgotten how to Upopu his muffler I reluctantly sa d good bye to Joyce and Eddie Eleanor and I left the next day for Hollywood When we arrived in Hollywood, naturally we were greeted by Louella Parsons. She invited Mrs Roosevelt and me to go with her to a movie set Arriving on the set, whom should I see hurrying to Elizabeth Taylor's dressing room but BARBARA MCMANOMY We talked a few minutes and she informed me that she was Elizabeth Taylor's hair- dresser. We soon Luft Hollywood destination Hawaii We had wired ahead to Honolulu for our reservations and were quite glad to retire to our rooms to rest As we were entering the dining room that evening, I saw a lady who looked familiar to me curiosity being aroused, I walked over to get a closer look A the lady turned, I saw that it was PEG LANDIS As we talked, I discovered that she and her husband owned the resort in which we were staying Eleanor must have wanted to see some kangaroos because she told me that we were traveling to Australia next Naturally, whem you think of Australia, you think of tennis, so we went to a tennis match lhen the announcer boomed that MISS MARILOU CROWDER was playing in a match that afternoon, which she won, I nearly fell from my seat I talked to Marilou after the match and she However, she looked very happy to me. Our next stop was to be Egypt I was very excited I had always wanted to see the pyramids After touring what seemld to be all Egypt, we finally came to the pyramids I saw a man studying them and jotting figures down on 0 clip board It was CHARLIE QUILLIN! He told me that some engineering firm was pay ing him P fabulous sum to make an exact replica of a pyramid While we were talking, a telegr m messenger came up and handed Charlie a telegram Charlie said, uOh, no! Now they want me in Paris. Something has gone wrong with the Eiffel Tower and they expect it to fall any day They want me to come and study its construction U Now we were going to Italyi I was tired when we arrived and told Eleanor that I thought I would eat dinner and retire early I walked down the street and saw a pizza house I thought, UOh, good, now I get to eat some real Italian pizza W I walked bask to a corner table and discovered that LARRY HUDSON was sitting across the room. I didn't recognize him at first because he was in military dress I wont over to his table and he greeted me with, nI'ma like da pizza'N I laughed and joined him for dinner He informed me that after graduating from West Point Milit ry Academy, he went into a military c recr and was in chrrge of a division now stationed in Jord n He was such a big wheel, he had flown a plane to Italy gust because he wanted pizza for dinner A . 1 A- 9 ' 0 . ,., , . ., , , . when I accepted the po ition as the private n se of Eleanor HXX my Roosevelt, I had no idea was soon to discover this attempted to convince her imagination Still being go to the Mayo Clinic for bags hurriedly Before I s e was a hypochondriac However, I fact Bein m Registered Nurse, I that nearly all her sickness was her unconvinoed, she insisted that she must a thorough examination We packed our left, I felt I must say good bye to my cousin and former classmate, SUE FRUITS, who was employed as 5 secretary to Henry Cabot Lodge in the United Nations Building he left the next morning and arrived at the clinic late that eve ning B this time, Eleanor was tired and cranky and was ust sure she was going to have some kind of an attack She deman ed E0 56 examined that very evening As we were sitting in the wait ing room, a very disgusted looking head surgeon walked in and tried to persuade Mrs Roosevelt to wait and be examined the next morning Although his back was toward me, I realized the surgeom was none other than JAMES ROBERT DRAKE He called in his head psychiatrist and asked him.to examine Mrs Roosevelt because Jim feared her sanity The head psychiatrist, KINNARD WHITE, reported that there was absolutely nothing the matter with her. When Jim discovered this he was more disgusted than he had previously been and told Mrs Roosevelt to fly around the world Under his breath, he said, UAnNplace, but get away from herein After toying with this idea, Eleanor decided th t she would take a trip around the world. She soon became so bus lannin that she forgot her sickness, Y P 8 and I once again lived a normal life. We went to port to see about purchasing a plane While Mrs. looking, I wondered about the airport and, seeing ing on a plane, I walked over to watch him Much it was RAMON UTTERBACK lhen I asked him what he a nearby air Roosevelt was a mechanic, work to my surprise was doing, he told me he was trying to put glass packed duals on his plane Later I learned that he was extremely wealthy and owned the air port It didn't take Eleanor long to decide on a plane and we soon hired a pilot, left the airport, and were on our way to Las Vagas where we planned to do some shopping before leaving- Arrivlng in Las Vagas around 4 Q0 pam , I decided to go some where that evening. I looked at a newspaper to see vho was appearb ing t the night clubs and saw that JOYCE ANN HAYES was opening that night at the nDesert Inn U Of course, I just had to see her, so I made a reservation After the show, I went back to her dress ing room, and we talked, and talked, and talked She told me she was soon to marry EDDIE LEE RUNYAN who was a banker in Las Vagas Nh sooner had we mentioned his name than he appeared decked out in the most expensive clothes ever. Ow journey to Switzerland was a pleasant one. The mountaim scenery was beautiful Eleanor went directly to Geneva, and, naturally, I followed. While she was conferring with ambassadors and ministers, I went shopping for a genuine Swiss watch. The style I wanted vas available only at the factory, so off I went to the factory A receptionist received me and asked if I would like to see the ttltory I replied, UYes, I certainly would,U and we were off A foreman yelled, 'Hey, Gilkeyl I turned around and there was GORDON LEWELLEN He told me that after serving in the army, he had come to Switzerland to work Gordon told me that CAROL HOUSER was an atomic scientist for the United Nations and was stationed in Geneva I was sorry I didn't have time to look her up Paris was next, and I was so excited that I couldn't eat or sleep I had alvays heard of the famous Paris Marta, and I went directly to one of them I saw m lady, dressed very smartly, hurrying around buying several different designs I recognized her immediately as JOYCE SCHENCK Her Purdue education had cer tainly paid off Now we were off to Englandl Eleanor was to meet the Queen, and she graciously invited me to go with her While having tea with the Queen, her maid came in She was none other that ROSEMARY PERKINS! The Queen invited us to a ball to be held the following CRAMER when I asked what she was doing there, she toli me that she had been sent by the New York Times as a photographer to cover the event Finally, we were coming beck to the United States The trip had been fun, but I was ready to come home I convinced Eleanor to fly to Indiana so that I could see my old home, since we hadn't stopped there on the way I went to Crawfordsville and looked for Dan Stum 's number in the t lephone directory After getting the address, I went directly to it And who do you suppose I found there? KAR CARROLL, of course, who is now Mrs Don Stump In the midst of the noise her children were making, Kae told me that MARGARET WILLIAMS had married and was living in Vaynetown I was glad for I was eager to see my home town I wasn't surprised to see that it had grown Two new factories were there and another was being constructed Margaret told me that her husband worked in one of them when I began the trip around the world, I had no idea that I was to meet all my former high school classmates After I returned to my home in New York City, I searched for my 1956 yearbook, the UAcer1a W I looked at the names and ambitions of e ch person Little did I realize in high school that every member of the graduating class of 1956 would reach hi goal in life Committee Ann Gilkey Peg Landis Joyce Hayes Ramon Utterback .
