Much to the regret of the class their sponsor could not be with them , on the occasion. U CHAPTER III. As they gathered together September fifth nineteen hundred twenty- six they found that Layton Combs had entered their midst after finding U u 2 E H 9 9 3 ll Il E that he could not keep pace with his group. Glenn Bunnell Rivers had E U grown tired and sat down by the wayside With twenty eight members ' they organized the Junior Class with Thelma Bernice Biddle president Ralph Skaggs vice president Orpha Blanche Plerce secretary and treas urer Hallie Smith and Clifford Davis sponsors This made the second time Mr Davis had been our class advisor and he served lust as faithfully this time as before Miss Smith also proved her abllitv is an adviser and both were presented a Christmas gift Two of the girls decided that rather than tread the Pathway of Knowledge they would set their ship afloat on the Sea of Matrimony They were Mildred Louise Dazey who on September sixteenth changed hel' name to Mildred Louise Cord and Lois Blankenship who on December twenty fourth became Mrs Harry Harlan In October Mildred Louise Eskew went to Waveland High School and Howard Franklin Stansbury who entered the group in March was com pelled to give up his school work because of 1ll health The class regretted very much to lo e such a faithful industrious student who worked not for his own benefit but to make his class the best When his death occurred on March fifteenth all knew that though hundreds should enter their class none could take Howard s place Helen Louise Groves brought more honor to her class by winning first 1n the Countv Dramatlc Reading Contest The class presented their first play Cat o Nine Tails February fourteenth Owlng to the fact that the boys in this group were such star basketball players Mr Davls refused to let them be up at night for play practice They had to go out of the class for part of the cast The play was one great success every seat in the auditorium being taken as well as was most of the standing room This play proved to the publlc that the class was well talented One ex ening in Aprll thirty one persons gathered to be the guests at a banquet known as the Junior Senior Reception These guests of honor were none other than the Seniors and the High School Faculty The Jun iors regretted that the Seniors who had helped them with their many dlffl cultles were leasing and saw this chance to reward them for their past klndnesses Eight of the Jun ors sang a song composed about the Seniors sw After the banquet all motored to Crawfordsville where they saw Zane 2 f LN' -UW? av '29 'Bea can N- 9 i 2 5 U 1 ' ' ' Q I D v K ' 0 U 5 . . . .ky K I .K u ll . . . . , . Cornelia Imogene Logan was elected presidentg Thelma Vivian Smith, S vice-presidentg Mildred Louise Eskew, secretaryg Freda Mathers, sponsor. The club met every Friday and discussed many problems concerning health and sanitation. l U o U u U U I Q 9 Q u E The class decided to publish an Aceria and in order to sell the great- E est possible number they chose sides and held a contest Eula Pauline Switzer was leader of the Hoovers and Ethel Elizabeth Collins leader of the Smiths The Smiths won the contest having sold thirty five more Acerias than the other side As 1 iesult the winners w ere delightfully entertained at a social giy en in their honor by the Hooveis A Weiner ioast was held at the home of Ethel Marie Harshbarger It was a very beautiful ey enmg and Miss Harshbaiger had a huge fire built and when the guests arriy ed everyone enioyed the feast immensely About twenty were present including their sponsors Mr Grenard and Miss Couty Each one felt sorrow in then hearts because this was their last weiner roast The Seniors with the teachers Mi Gienard and Mr Hall decided that they wanted to get aw ay from the hum drum of school so on the date of February 21 they left Waynetown by special bus at 7 30 a m for Ind1 napolls They ai rived there about 10 00 and went to the Capitol Build ing They listened to the reading of some bills in the House foi about three quarters of an hour and they then went to the Senate where some yeiy strong arguments weie heard against a law which was being con sidered and voted upon After leaying the senate each one had the pleasure of shaking hands with Goyernor Leslie and yiewing the pictures of all previous goy ernors of Indiana The party then dined and attended the show Give and Take at the Indiana theatre The postoffice and the Indiana W ar Memoiial were then visited One place which appealed to all present was the Indianapolls News office Thev were taken through all the departments including the room in which plain paper goes on a huge roller and oy er seyeral other rollers and comes out a folded paper Ex ery one receiy ed a souven11 from the de 1 ment After a well spent dav they retired to the Clay pool Hotel for an hour W l or o of recreation then they dined As it was still rathei early in the ey emng they w ent window shopping before going to the English theatre to see the Shakespearean play Hamlet They arriy ed in Way netown at 2 30 1 m F1 iday tned and sleepy but 5 well satisfied w 1th the way they had spent the day Z 7 Ax! ww ff' L Uesagp 4:3 is me 2 satan-:fra -,,g':- C, ga S.
