We shall never forget the great import¬ ance this institution has played in our lives. The memories of dances, ball games, parties, clubs, achievements, moments of laughter, and of tears . . . which have occurred here will live forever in our hearts. We will never forget the friends, the teachers, and the counselors, who have meant so much to each of us. Their friend¬ ship and devotion means more than anything else. Many of the fondest memories that have oc¬ curred here will be dimmed as time passes on. Therefore, it is the wish of all seniors of 1966 that this Mountaineer will be the key that will unlock the unforgettable memories of Golden School Days. 2 (Contents The health of a nation is more important than the wealth of a nation. By the work one knows the workman. By labor and intent study joined with the strong propensity of nature, I might perhaps leave something so written to after times as they should not willingly let it die. We find him developing his intellectual skill. Here we will sit and let the sounds of music creep in our ears: soft stillness and the night become the touches of sweet harmony. These were honoured in their generations, and were the glory of the times. Why should we break up our snug and pleasant party? Victories that are cheap are cheap. Those only are worth having which come as a result of hard fighting. On with the dance! let joy be unconfin ' d; No sleep till morn, when youth and pleasure meet. Home Ec. for boys? We have met the enemy and they are ours. Have you got that spirit? r L Tis easy enough to be pleasant, when life flows along like a song. Few speeches which have produced an electri¬ cal effect on an audience can bear the colour¬ less photography of a printed record. These are three faithful friends. Dedication It is with deep appreciation, that we, the Seniors of 1966 lovingly dedicate this yearbook to Mrs. Kathryn Kirkpatrick. Her sincere de¬ votion to the students through the years has meant a great deal to each of us. Her benevolent friendship and guidance have helped many a lost and lonely student to find his way. Her scintil¬ lating personality and pleasing smile will long linger through these halls and in the hearts of many. As a person, as a teacher, and as a counselor, she has contributed much to helping others ... To her goes our undying appreciation. Dr. Mack Setser, Max Rogers, Joe Cline, Tony Jones, Hugh McCracken, David Noland, T. Edwin Hyatt, William F. Brown, Dr. Hugh Daniels (absent) Jerome H. Melton, Superintendent of Haywood County Schools C. R. Dale, Assistant Superintendent Lawrence Leatherwood, Assistant Superintendent 15 M. H. Bowles, Principal Seniors: We, the faculty, congratulate you upon reaching the achievement of graduation from high school. We have enjoyed working with you during the years you have been in high school and wish for you success and happiness in the years ahead. Your success and happiness will depend in a large measure upon the values you select as the controlling influence in your life. For instance, do you value personal integrity? Do you consider yourself a person who can be depended upon to meet every obligation to the best of his ability? What value do you place upon the home and the role it should play in the life of the state, and nation? Are you ready and willing to sacrifice good times, to work long and hard to establish and maintain a home even after romantic love has flown out the window? Do you believe that this great nation of ours has the right to expect loyalty and if need be, great sacrifice from you to preserve the ideals expressed in the Constitution? Many of our national problems stem from the wrong answer to the questions set forth in the preceding paragraph. It is our b elief that the answer to these and similiar questions should stem from a real desire to serve God, our fellow man, and our nation to the very best of our ability. Only when we have done our very best to fully develop our native abilities and use the abilities in a constructive way can we have the self-respect which is the basis of the good life. We are confident that each of you will contribute to the progress of this community, this state and this nation. M. H. Bowles 16 C. E. Weatherby, Assistant Principal Mrs. A. P.
