It is most gratifying to know that so many of you will be receiving your high school diploma at the close of this year. I rejoice with you in your accomplishment and wish for you the very best in the years to come. You have reached a milestone in your life ' s career. May this not be the end of your efforts to prepare yourselves for the life that is before you. May each of you not forget the efforts of those who have made it possible for you to reach this milestone and of those with whom you have worked and played over the years, and above all do not forget the Holy One who has kept a watchful eye over you during these years. Spend much time in secret with Him alone that your lives may be more useful to yourself and those about you. Lawrence B. Leatherwood Superintendent of Schools Seniors: First, I should like to thank you for the contribution that you have made individually and collectively through the various departments of the school. With¬ out the constructive leadership of members of the senior class, the school could not progress. We are living in a time when we are constantly reminded by all mediums of communications of the rights of the individual . Very little is ever said about the responsibility or duty of the individual. Our homes, our churches, our schools, and the very strength of our nation is being seriously threatened by the selfishness generated by the emphasis on rights and little consideration of duty . We shall follow your careers with interest, and we sincerely hope that you will be successful in your chosen work. However, unless you recognize the value of the home, the church and the school in our society and give these institutions your loyalty and support, your material success will contribute very little to your day and age. M. H. Bowles Superintendent of Waynesville District
