We have fznally fznzshed the fzrst mile of our lzfe As we look back over the past years we recall many mterestmg facts You started recordzng events zn 1938 and 1939 when most of the class entered thzs great bzg world We were scattered at varzous schools rn the commumty for our grammar educa tzon When we entered Waynesvzlle Town shzp Junzor High rn 1951 we had an enrollment of 300 pupils, 166 boys and 134 gzrls They say we were the nozszest class ever to enter the school but along wzth bezng nozsy we were blessed with many talents In the ezghth grade Ned Tucker won the U D C medal an the declamatzon contest Remember how proud we were of hun? That year the band went to Chzcago to represent North Carolina zn the Inter natzonal Lzons Convention We really felt grown up dzdn t we? Then came the fzrst of four wonderful years our freshman year m Hzgh School Our enrollment by then had dropped to 244 Though the upper classmen dzdnt thznk so we thought we were grown up but we proved to be great pests Ned agazn won a speakzng contest thzs time the D A R Ned entered the Dzstrzct Speakmg Contest held at Cullowhee and received fzrst place Next came our sophomore year We had many athletzc prospects thzs year among them was Bear Turner playzng fzrst team football Agazn the muszc depart ment made a trzp Thzs tznze the orchestra answered an znvztatzon to play rn New Orleans W hat a trzpff The next thzng we knew we were junzors and were talking about how snooty we thought the senzors were By thrs tzme our enrollment had fallen to 175 We all 'went around vzth added znterest to our hands when our class rzngs arrzved In the sprang we had the przvzlege of electing the Presrdent of the Student Counczl Tom Garrett was elected to lead the school our senzor year Agam the band was chosen to play at the Internatzonal Lzons Conventzon thzs tzme rn IVI1amz workzng toward for so long our senzor year We have really had fun thrs year Electrons were held and Carroll Hooper was elected for the fourth tzme preszdent of the class Gary Evans and Glenda Eavenson were elected Edztors of the annual Wzth the cfmverszon of the audztorzum znto class rooms we couldnt have many concerts Next came the senzor banquet and fznally the great day arrived when all 151 senzors recezved a dzptoma and a warm handshake from Mr Bowles Well Dear Dzary you have kept a very accurate record of the events of our school days When we have our next class meetzng may we read the outcome of our lzves as you have recorded them LINDA BOONE Hzstorzan H l 0 V' V 7 J . .
