for Life Mr. Paul W. Bateman Assistant Principal Curriculum Graduation from Waynesboro High School requires seventeen Carnegie units for work in the 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grades. Beginning with the class of 1961, eighteen credits will be required for graduation. The Class of 1964, counting their 8th grade credits, will have to have 23 credits for graduation. Changes in graduation requirements are made from year to year by the State Board of Education and the school to increase the value and efficiency of the school program. A Carnegie unit is given for each full time subject which meets five times a week for thirty-six weeks, fifty-five minutes each day. The courses required for graduation in 1960 by the State Board are: English.4 units American and Virginia History . 1 unit American and Virginia Government .... 1 unit Mathematics ...... 1 unit Science. Health and Physical Education (2 years) Electives. 1 unit 1 unit 8 units Waynesboro High School is fully accredited by the Virginia State Board of Education and the Southern Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. A certificate of membership is issued to those high schools which meet specified standards of achievement. On the next pages are shown some typical classroom scenes and some of the courses, offered at Waynesboro High. 13

Mrs. Collins explains a problem in Plane Geometry to her class. Kitty Boyd and Connie Carter seem to find it just too difficult to under¬ stand. Solid Geometry is also offered at Waynesboro High School. Ninth grade math can be puzzling, but with an able teacher such as Mrs. Daniel, pupils are more eagar to learn. These students have the chance to take many follow-up courses for a more corhplete knowledge of the field. 14
