This year for the first time the band journeyed to Pennsylvania State Lniversity for lland Day. The reward for the band members who spent time in preparation for the event was the opportunity to witness a big eollege game. .Xnother memorable event was a SIOO scholarship won by the band as a iesult of its excellent showing in llarrisburg' at the Industrial and Construetional lfxposition Parade. It also received prizes in the Hagerstown and Chambersburg llalloween parades. The band was also represented in state. district. and eounty band. ln addition it participated in the local Christmas parade. put on an assembly pro- gram. and provided an evening s entertainment during Music Heels. Two members of Chorus, Richard Thompson and Joyce llelm, had the privilege of rep- resenting XVaynesboro Area High School at District Chorus, which was held at New llloom- field. The entire group gave a radio broadcast, a Christmas program, and their annual con- cert in the spring. Members of the group have also performed at various community events. The 1954 season marked the start of a new era in football for XYaynesboro since it was the first year of jointure. The Indians, directed by Coach Brady, provided the best team NYaynesboro fans have seen for several years. The boys worked hard and played good football all season. On September 17 the Indians opened their eight game schedule by defeating Shippensburg 20-13. The Tribe jumped an an early lead and kept it as they won the opener. On September 24, the Tribe dropped the second game to a powerful Martinsburg eleven 27-0. VVaynesboro didn't give up until the final whistle but eouldn't seem to penetrate the strong Martins- burg defense. On October l, playing their first home game of the season, the Indians came out on the short end of a 28-0 decision. Carlisle's Thundering Herd proved too much competition for the Bradymen. O11 October 8, the Indians snapped a two game losing streak by defeating Gettysburg o-0. The Tribe outclassed the VVarriors from start to finish, playing most of the game in Gettysburg territory. O11 October 22. after seeing their first period drive stoiped deep in NIechaniesburg territory the Indians completely folded before a classy VVild-cat eleven 38-0. October 29-In the most thrilling contest of the season the Tribe dropped a 25-2-I decision to the Chambersburg Trojans. Gary Barkdoll, ace senior back, ran back the opening kick of the game 95 yards to give the Indians an early lead. The lead changed hands several times throughout the game.
