Although she was not awarded the blue ribbon in the state competition, Barney won prize money offered by the Advertising Club, the Manufacturers' Association, and the Council of Republican VVomen. Gerald Sanders, our star tackle. won a position on the All-Conference sec- ond-string football squad. During the entire football season, Gerry played the game wholeheartedly and was the mainstay of the forward wall. Our class president, Robert Adams, had the honor of ranking in the top tenth of the participants of the national l'epsiiCola Scholarship Contest. Among the 44,000 high school students who took the scholarship examination administered all over the country, Bob came through with tlying colors. V Grace Monn, a true master of the culinary arts, baked a flaky-crusted, suc- culent cherry pie which won her first place in the local contest conducted by The Pennsylvania State Cherry Growers' Association. Victoria Armstrong, our future Pulitzer Prize winner, won first place for her editorial f'Her VVork Is Ours entered in an editorial contest s onsored b the P Pennsylvania School Press Association. The Blue and Gold, for which many of our class members have been faith- ful editors. reporters. and cartoonists during our high school careers, was awarded Hrst place by the Pennsylvania School Press Association. This is the second time our school paper has achieved this honor. Phyllis Coffman and Doris XYallech were among the talented musicians chosen to represent the Xlaynesboro High School lland in the Southern District lland Festival in january. Bert Thornton. outstanding vocalist of the XYaynesboro Choral Club, trav- eled to Carlisle to represent our school in the Southern District Chorus Festival. Kenneth Ebeling. the droll wit of our class, has won for the second con- secutive year the coveted title of Champion Speller of NVaynesboro Senior High School. His crowning glory was rat-a-clys-mic. Our dramatic. shoeless artist. lletty Ann Ross, has made real something which, for most of us. could be only a daydream.
