People of the town- ship were asked to hire students to do odd jobs during one day of the vacation. In return for the services rendered, the employ- ers', agreed to make a donation to Hungarian relief. When Al Smith performed on the Ted Mack Amateur Hour on television, he took time to discuss our fund-raising project. Within ten days, encouraging letters and donations poured in from fourteen states. On December 27 a variety of jobs were performed. Students were seen throughout the community raking lawns, painting cellars, washing cars, baby-sitting and ironing. At the close of the day the contributions totaled over one thousand six hundred dollars. The climax of Workday occurred when students trav- eled to Washington, D. C., where Vice President Richard Nixon accepted the money on behalf of the Hungarian Relief Fund. .
