Dr. Dovid D. Henry Prv.-xiden? of Wayne Universify. Ai 2 April 7, 1948 Graduation time is an occasion for congratulations and good wishes. Your successful completion of your college work should give you personal pride and the confidence that comes with the fulfillment of aspira- tions and the achievement of important goals. We told you as freshmen that the University would be as concerned as you that your experience at Wayne should be happy and -successful. Now at the close of the course, we share your ioy and satisfaction in the task you have completed. We hope you, in turn, will cherish the ties that bind you to Wayne University. The work of Wayne will be appraised largely by the stature and quality of its alumni. Its high purposes will be fulfilled as you and your associates faithfully meet the expectations of your friends and fellows. Wayne is the symbol of the faith of your city and state in the importance of your education. Public service and public facilities have been placed at your disposal because of the belief that your success will contribute to the welfare of others. We hope you cheerfully accept the obliga- tion to justify, by deed and thought, the faith placed in you by your community. The years ahead will be full of difiicult problems as the world tries to recover from the terrible struggle of the war years and tries to find the paths to an enduring peace. The college trained men and women, by virtue of their training, are needed desperately in the fight for a better world. I wish for each of you a civic conscience that will help you hold to the highest ideals of citizenship an.d public service. DAVID D. Brennan as registrar after 15 years experience as assistant registrar. Marking cards did away with cumulative records, science and art classes were reserved and registra- tion appointments reduced long waiting periods. Serial numbers were used in place of names in an attempt to clarify the process. Confusion was further avoided by on increased staff of registration assistants. The bookstore expanded its facilities, issued appointment slips to keep pace with the speedy registration. my-5 S.-1 ,M Noula AWGN ' lviwk. JC-nie H -3, ,ff , '5 1 R, I wi -...H f .' Institutions in which A. K. Psi has installed chapters are accredited by every College and Secondary School Association of any conse- quence in the United States. ,, k k it The aims of A. K. Psi are to further the individual welfare of its members, to foster scientific research in the fields of commerce, accounts, and finance, to educate the public to appreciate and demand higher ideals therein, and to promote and advance in institutions of college rank, courses leading to degrees in business administration. ' Since 1904, 63 student chapters have been installed in leading educational institutions the country over. The Beta Omicron Chapter here at Wayne University is one of the newcomers to the fraternity having been founded May 18, 1941. V Despite its newness the Beta Omicron Chapter is well recognized in the fraternity, having managed to cop the annual efficiency contest award from 62 other chapters last year by turning in a perfect score of 100,000 points. And despite the attempts of competing chapters to wrest away her lourels she intends to fight hard to make ittwo in a row. A 'k 'k 'k Being a member chapter of a professional fraternity necessitates the formulation of a definite program of professional activity each year. Such activity includes speakers on economics, business and educa- tional subiects, industrial tours, research projects, service to the school and innumerable other activities. This year's Council was a direct result of the increased tempo of campus politics, During the spring election in T947 the greatest number of student voters turned out to elect slates to the top student positions. Elected president was Virginia Murray, who later resigned to become Mrs. Don Fuller. George Squire, law, took over the gavel. 'k 'k 'lr 'k Many issues faced the Council during its two-semester term. Student discipline for oft-campus activities, violation of regu- lations by campus groups, DSR passes for students, recognition ofthe National Student Ass'n-each required considerable research and consideration. At the same time, a revision of both Council by-laws and changes in the Manual of Politics and Procedures were being carried out. Student Community Service Committee was activated to centralize all charity drives under one collection. ABC lAthletic Booster Committeel was granted a vastly increased budget for attracting more rooters to Wayne games. flt worked, too.J But, an unfortunate tradition, the Council lost to the Collegian in the annual Goodfellow sale and once again had to stand treat for 20 scribes at a turkey dinner. l l .J Top row: B. Union Book Store 5021 Woodward TE 'I-0880 - JOHN BEYSTER 8: SONS CO. LUMBER - HIGH GRADE AMILL WORK 3051 W. Fort St. TO 5-0922 - X- 67 ODAY, Aladdin's genii would have first-class inferiority complexes. The trouble? There are so many man-made wonders to show them up as bushers in the Miracle League. Could any amount of lamp rubbing produce, for example, such out-of-this-world things as: the electron microscope, germ-killing lamps, jet planes or the electric eye? They've also switched radar from the battlefield to the kitchen in a dingus which will roast a hot dog, or broil a steak, before you can draw a cup of coffee to go with it. It's enough to give any Class A genie a nervous breakdown. And, as always, there are two schools of thought on where we go from here. One is ably represented by those like Mr. Henry L. Ellsworth, one-time U. S. Commissioner of Patents, who in 1844 stated that man had reached , the end of his creative ability! There's another, larger school, thank goodness, which holds that we are only crossing the threshold of man s creativeness . . . only beginning to sense the bountiful world ahead. ,,,..
