I l I Bill Seitz and Irving Patil were the only two letter men to report to Coach Q i I Holmes for track at the beginning of the season. In spite of this fact, the Green 1 V and Gold thin clads have made a more than creditable showing. In the tirst I It indoor meet of the season, that with Ohio VVesleyan, at Delaware, the City 1 ' team managed to garner 3715 to 5725 points for their opponents. Blanchard, Vincent, and Cooper all taking tirsts in this meet. In the State Athletic Carni- Q R val at East Lansing, Yincent won the shot put, Seitz tied for second in the pole p , I vault. and Cooper took third place in both hurdles, an entirely creditable per- l l I i formance. s Ypsi Normal's State Championship team was next on the schedule. Ypsi E won, but not before she knew she was having a tussle. In this meet, Blanchard I f again took a lirst, this time beating out VVerle, Ypsi's Olympic prospectg Seitz took the pole vault: Doherty, the high jump, Vincent, the shot: and the relay Q Q 5 team set a new track record when they covered the 20 laps in 3-322 The linal score was 50-36. Outdoors the team showed up even better.. In the hrst meet with M. A. C. g at Lansing, the team was linally beaten by 2 points, the linal score being 66lg T ,Xl to 6-112. In all, the Green and Gold squad took 8 lirsts and lost the meet only because of lack of numbers. The meet with lYestern State Normal was called I it off because of rain. , l At the State Intercollegiate Track and Fieldmeet at East Lansing, the Detroit 1 ' . I team again showed its superiority over other state teams when she managed P I to cop second place, only four points behind the Ypsilanti team. In this meet the g . Q team managed to beat out :uch institutions as M. A. C. and 'Western State 1 ' ' Normal who always have been strong in athletics. By virtue of their victories I i the College now possesses two cups, one for being runner up in the meet and the f other for taking second in the relay. One of the bright spots of the meet was the fact that the Detroit team was built up primarily of green material. Seitz and . 3 Paul were the only letter men at the beginning of the season. But due to the 6,2 abilities of Coach Holmes, who seems to have the knack of developing material A out of nothing, the team progressed. if JI Altogether the thin clads managed to take three lirst places, seven seconds I .fig and three thirds in the meet. Cooper took a first in the High Hurdles and third me in the lows. Seitz in winning the pole vault tied the state record, and Zuber won , the discus throw. It was only because of being pocketed at the beginning that I I Blanchard and Brown failed to place in their events. 1 I , 5 t ' Ypsilanti won the meet with 36M points while the Detroit aggregation took 2 I p 32213 with VVestern Normal Third and M.
