NINETEEN EIGHTY-FOUR In the book entitled Nineteen Eighty-Four, George Orwell gove us a picture of the world some years hence. We hope it is a work of fiction and not truly prophetic, for the State is master, the individual citizen its servant. Our hope that the year 1984 will find American freedoms preserved and extended comes from the college student of today. Independent in thought a seeker of truth, humanitarian in outlook, and militant in his citizenship, he will soon be providing the leadership for our country. At Wayne State we strive to create the training ground for tomorrow's citizen, a defender of the American way of life. i 3
