dyke dd 1 Wayne's defending Class 'B' state champs opened the '55-'57 season with a 73-54 win at Hartington. Bob Schwarzenbach led the scoring with 23 points. 1 ln the season's first home game the Wayne team Won a 77-47 contest over Tekamah. Dahl tallied 30 points to lead the romp. Wayne nipped Norfolk's Panthers 66-63 after staving off a last quarter rally. Bud Priceis fine rebounding contributed much to the Wayne cause. Wayne defeated Pierce 70-51 behind the scoring of Dahl and Schwarzenbach. Dahl made 24 and Schwarzenbach 18. Roger Denesia played a fine floor game and made 14 points. The Blue Devils pulled away from a good Plainview team in the last quarter to win 73-54. Dahl led the attack as he scored 28 points. Wayne turned in a fine performance in a win- ning 72-64 effort over the Col. St. Bonaventure quintet. Schwarzenbach led the win with 24 points. Wayne easily turned back the Pender team 63-39 in a game at Pender. Dahl was high with 21. Madison handed Wayne its only loss of the regular season by a 59-50 score on the Dragon's home floor. Again Dahl led the Wayne scoring, as he tallied 22. Wayne' turned back a hustling Stanton five 84-63, behind a three man scoring effort. Dahl was high with 29, lVlanske has 22, and Schwar- zenbach scored 21. The Blue Devils swamped an outmanned Hartington Holy Trinity team 78-46. The Wayne reserves, playing much of the game, turned in fine performances, with Bill Koeber and Dick Schmitz playing a good game. Wayne routed a fine Neligh team with a fine team performance in a conference game at home. Schwarzenbach led the scoring with 23 points, Dahl had 20, Denesia and Jerry Hendrickson made 14 apiece, and Manske contributed 12. Kenny Dahl led the Blue Devils to a 81-59 victory over the South Sioux City squad, as the 6,6 center tallied 43 points, just two short of the school record set by Larry Hofeldt last year. Wayne rallied from a 8 point halftime deficit to wina73-61 victory over the West Point Cadets in a victory at home. Dahl led the victory with 19 points and Dennis lVlanske contributed 16. Price turned in a fine rebounding job. inc 2 gefeato ln the last regular game of the season Wayne won a first place tie in the Husker Conference West Division with a 87-64 win over Wisner. Bob Schwarzenbach took scoring honors for Wayne as he tallied 33 points. Dahl scored 24, Nlanske 17, and Denesia 17. Fred fiickers did a good job rebounding. Wayne won the Husker Conference champion- ship with a 67-60 victory over a smooth but short Oakland team. Dahl was Wayne's top scorer as he tallied 20 points and Schwarzenbach scored 17. In the first game of the Class 6B' district play-off Wayne routed Pierce 91-63. Dahl was the game's leading scorer as he tallied 30 points. Substitutes Larry Wacker and Pete Guern played fine ball. Ken Dahl gets first tip of season. The Blue Devils routed Creighton in the semi-final game 99-61, after building a 57-22 lead at halftime. In the first half Dahl hit 8 of 10 shots, and Schwarzenbach hit 8 of 9 shots. Schwarzenbach was high with 31. Dahl fol- lowed him as he hit for a total of 24 points. Wayne easily downed Plainview in the dis- trict finals 71-44. Again Dahl was the leading scorer as he tallied 27. Dahl's 81 points also was high point for all the players in Class 'BH district tournaments. Schwarzenbach's 62 points was fourth high, and Wayne's 261 points set a district record-. Madison downed Wayne 58-55 in the regional playoff at Norfolk. The Blue Devils had a cold night with only Ken Dahl scoring- at ths regular pace. He tallied 27 in the season's last game. -53..
