Baagefgaff' Starting almost from scratch after losing seven seniors from last year's class B runners up, Coach Horton brought his Blue Devil cagers to a Husker Conference Championship. It was the first championship won by the west division and it brought sweet revenge to Wayne High. In two attempts in football and one in basketball Wayne had suffered defeat at the hands of the Oakland Vikings. This time, however, Coach Horton's boys were not to be denied and displayed a sterling performance of team play to win 57-52. ln this game David Meyer and Dwayne Atkins led the Wayne scoring with 19 and 19 markers respectively. Don Skeahan, Iim Henegar, Bill Palmer, Kennard Manske and Gordon Zapp did a superb job to help gain the victory. Coach Horton had no regular starting five during the season, but the boys mentioned above plus Mark Tietsort and lim Atkins saw the most action. Meyer led the team in scoring with 225, D. Atkins had 131, Skeahan lOO, Henegar 64, Iensen 64, Manske 57, Palmer 44, Zapp 39, M. Tietsort 12, I. Atkins 6, Price 5, Iohnson 4, Korff 2. D. Atkins, Skeahan, Meyer, and Iensen are the only seniors lost from next year's squad, so a good year can be expected. A number of dual meets are being planned whereby they will have the opportunity to compete with other neighboring schools. The highlight of the season will be the Husker Conference meet at Norfolk. Other large meets in which the team will participate will be the Norfolk Invitational and the District meet at which the boys may earn the opportunity to compete in the state meet. 26

The Wayne High Chapter was established in 1946. This organization's purpose is to promote scholarship, service, character and leadership. The members are selected from the junior and senior classes with one-third of each class eligible. Only five per cent oi the juniors and fifteen per cent of the seniors may be elected. - These students are not only honored as being members of the local chapter but as a part of 2300 chapters established throughout the United States, Puerto Rico, Hawaii and the Philippines. A large percentage of colleges and univer- sities recognize members ot this organization on their campuses. The oiticers of Wayne Highs Honor Society for this year are: President, Alice Benthackg Vice President, Bob Carhartp and Secretary-Treasurer, Bonnie Sorensen.
