The satisfaction ot accomplishment, yes, but even more, the joy ot service to W.l'l.S. has been our com- pensation in the production of this volume. We sin- cerely hope you will accept it in the spirit in which it is orlered, and that in future years it may recall many happy memories of your school days. -3- lil! 1 fl 'E DEDICATION Much of Wayne Hiqh's interest lies in its outstanding athletic program. Its success comes not from the students alone, but largely from the stress on character development by our coaches. Lloyd Horton and Rodney Love pos- sess the character and leadership necessary for their association and coaching of our youth. We deeply appreciate the ei-fort 'given by these two men in building our teams and re- spectfully dedicate to them our annual, the 1952 DEVIL DAZE. Ioan Grimm, loan Nelson Cfaif, .qD'ZOflgECH Here we are in the year 1972. Let's see what we can tind on the radio. Radio? What's that? Let's turn on the Television and see if we can find some- thing interesting. Over here on Channel l0 we have that well-known news commentator, Robert Carhart. I wonder what he has to say. He's just reading a news flash--Robert Goshorn, the jet car ace, set a new speed record of 1000 m.p.h. Some speed! Let's hear what else Bob- has to say. The well-known French teacher, Margaret Swinney, is returning to this country from Paris tor a short visit. She is teaching French in the University ot Paree where she has won great recognition. Now a word from the world of fashion. The head dress designer oi the Vogue magazine, Betty Mohlielcl, says that skirts will be shorter again this year. The first thing we know, styles will be back to what they were in 1952. The world famous show, Roller Capades is now touring the country, and has been proving very successful. The star of the show is Gladys Ternrne. lt is surprising how people throughout the country have acclaimed the show, SO be sure 10 See .i1-,Whe11.ii...CQmes.tO Your CKY-,NQWL3lhQ.W9llQ,Qf,.SB,QEL -15- Mariorie Dorman, head coach at Harvard University, has a winning team this year. They've won all six hundred basketball games they played this season. Weatherman Carl Allvin reports that the weather tomorrow is to be fair and warmer. Let's see what program is on Channel 25. It's the Main Street of Anytown, U.S.A. As we take a trip down Main Street, we see many familiar looking faces. Who's that tall lass on the corner over there? Why it's Bonnie Sorensen. What does that sign say? Sorensen's Dog Kennels. Bonnie looks tired-she must have spent many sleepless nights with her dogs. Walter Gilbert's Curiosity Shop is down the street aways. Over on the opposite side of the street is Mme. Dorthy Finn's Beauty Salon. And farther on down the stree-t is Test's Farm Equipment Store. Why, there's Paulson's Horse Stables. There's Ioeanne out scrubbing one of her thoroughbreds now. Elaine Otte's Baton School is the last stop on the program. Here comes the best program of the day, Circus Highlights, sponsored by lim Colson's Hatchery. There's the fat lady of the circus, Marlene Thun. The muscle man of the circus is-excuse me while I look again-it is-it's Vernon Hollman. Shirley Lindsay has come a long way since high school. Then she was a lover of cats, and now she's head lion-tamer of the circus. The star acrobats of the show are two misses that look familiar. lt looks like Ioan Grimm and Ioanne Damme. lt is! lsn't that man tall? He's the tall man of the circus, Harris Heineman. Paul Dangberg is the fire eater. He's just finished his lunch of a small bonfire. Ioan Hansen's trained seals are a favorite of the children. That must take patience to train those seals. Kenneth Hamer is the barker for that side show over there. Glen Meyer just drove a big car in front of the television camera. He and David Meyer are co-owners of this-the Meyer and Meyer Circus. Television is getting boring. Let's see what we can find of interest in this morning's newspaper. The show on at the Picture Theater is Decision After Dawn. The main stars are Alice Benthack, Donald Skeahan, and Dorthy Kluge. That picture won the highest award in the picture industry this year. In the sports section of the paper we find that Dwayne Atkins is scheduled to play in the tennis finals in Australia on Tuesday. Harvey Brader has just announced his jet car, the Brader Special. Along with Harvey's car comes the announce- ment of a new jet plane, the Milliken Star Rocket. Robert has been designing jet planes for many years, but this is the first time one of his models has been accepted for production. What does this ad say? Have your photographs taken at the Kabisch Photo Center. Ioanne insures you that you will be satisfied with your portrait or your money back. Gary Nelson has been named father of the year. That's a great honor for our old classmate. Elaine Hurd has been named mother of the year. Wasn't she an old classmate of ours, too? At the season's end the Lincoln Star and Iournal rated Wayne High tenth of all Class B clubs in the state. They went through an 8 game season undefeated, only to lose to Oakland 14-6 in the Husker Conference play-off. ln this game the Blue Devils played their best game of the year, but the breaks didn't come their Way. They outdowned the Oakland eleven 16 to 5 and outgained them 278 to 212 in total yardage. As one fan said, l don't see how a team could play such good ball and still lose the game. During the regular season Wayne score 222 points to their opponents 32. Team play was the main factor in all the games as no one player dominated the play during the season. V The scoring which was evenly divided is as follows: Meyer 62, Granqvist 38, Palmer 31, D. Atkins 30, Skeahan 24, Tietsort 24, Henegar 13, I. Atkins 6. Coaches Horton and Love's usual starting eleven were I. Atkins and Gilbert Granquist at ends, Vic Kniesche and Rob- ert Iensen at tackles, Clarence Mann and David Meyer at guards, Gordon Zapp at center, Don Skeahan at quarter, Mark Tietsort and D. Atkins at half and Bill Palmer at fullback. It was the first championship won by the west division and it brought sweet revenge to Wayne High. In two attempts in football and one in basketball Wayne had suffered defeat at the hands of the Oakland Vikings. This time, however, Coach Horton's boys were not to be denied and displayed a sterling performance of team play to win 57-52. ln this game David Meyer and Dwayne Atkins led the Wayne scoring with 19 and 19 markers respectively. Don Skeahan, Iim Henegar, Bill Palmer, Kennard Manske and Gordon Zapp did a superb job to help gain the victory. Coach Horton had no regular starting five during the season, but the boys mentioned above plus Mark Tietsort and lim Atkins saw the most action. Meyer led the team in scoring with 225, D. Atkins had 131, Skeahan lOO, Henegar 64, Iensen 64, Manske 57, Palmer 44, Zapp 39, M. Tietsort 12, I. Atkins 6, Price 5, Iohnson 4, Korff 2. D. Members oi the group performed at the District Meeting of the Women's Club in Wayne and provided flashing half-time routines with their lighted batons at two of our high school basketball Qarnes. The twirlers led our high school band in many pa- rades, of which the Hallowesta in Norfolk and the W.S.T.C. Homecoming parade are the most spectacular. Since this is perhaps their principle chore it follows that they should receive recognition for performing it we-ll and often. -40- Doris Marian 4 n lf V Wag WM as ,K - ' 1 I ty -5 yi .xiii , ' gli kr ii:-I- ? kl 'X ' e-Z5 , if Don Skeahan Helen Corzine .,lllsvgzW,rf1,w'w,XQg2fm,w 7fviigzqggi1wf,,l,zfMz,.f.z,vf 91 E ..
