The stu- dents and teachers have co-operated to make a sturdy trunk, and the students themselves have developed the branches through their participation in the various clubs and sports activities. As a tree must be protected from blight, our yearbook was kept out of danger by our four staffs composing one of the most important branches of the tree. The hard working staffs - literary, art, photography, and business-circulation - enlarged the theme of trees throughout the entire yearbook. A tree is nurtured by the sun and elements of the earth, so too was the l958 EAGLE given strength by the advisor, Mr. Norman Shaffer. When every- thing was still in rough form, it was pieced together to correct any trouble, Although we had our many problems, we had our fun, too. It was an exasperating job, but we have de- veloped our yearbook to one we can really be proud of. Including the reminders of our achievements and victories, both scholastic and athletic, we have tried to produce a complete record of our joy and sorrow throughout the years. . Throughout her life, Mrs. Hazel Bassage of XX'alworth, New York, has dedicated her life to children. A graduate of Wfalworth High School and Brockport State Teachers' College, she has taught fourteen years in the schools of this vicinity. Beginning her teaching career in Frewill District No. 8 Rural School, she taught all first eight grades. Six years of her career were spent in Walworth High School and the past eight years at Wayne Central during which time she has taught the eighth grade, giving many hundreds of children a fruitful start towards a happy and well-educated life. Married, to Mr. Howard Bassage, who has previously served several years on the Wayne Central Board of Education, Mrs. Bassage has two wonderful children. Wishing to give them the many benefits of a higher education, Mr. and Mrs. Bassage have sent both Janet and Lyle through college. With music as one of her main interests, Mrs. Bassage sings in the choir and plays the piano for the W'alworth Methodist Church of which she is a member. She has also taught Sunday School during the past years. Always willing to lend a helping hand, she aids anyone who needs a boost. Her many attributes have inspired the lives of the student body at Wayne Central, and we sincerely hope that this true friend will remain a part of us for many years to come and may her life be filled with happiness and success. . . A person can row a small boat through the passages of this cave and if one is not particularly careful about making noise, there may be seen thousands of glow worms or fire flies giving the cavern an eerie glow of halfaillumination. However. if the boatsman slides through the waters silently, the glow worms are not disturbed and do not shine, leaving the cave in totaldarkness, lt seems to me people are like these glow worms. If they be- come self-satisfied. complacent, sluggish and over contented. they do not shine: and their lives are dull, colorless, and unnoticed. On the other hand, when people are concerned, aroused, and inquisitive, their lives are more apt to illuminate the dark caverns of our com- plex world. XVe say that their personalities glow with radiance and warmth. So. Seniors - be concerned about the world around you, be- come aroused about the injustices of life, be inquisitive about the mysteries of life - your life is bound to shine more brightly. Parker N. Of course, they had completed the minimum of twelve years of education offered by the educational system of New York State, but Gordon and David felt that they shouldn't stop there when it was possible to gain more education to help them in their life's vocation. XX'ayne is pleased to have these two p.g.'s return to gain more than just a formal education, for they realize that the destiny of the nation lies in an educated people.
