lvl n of e e xg,-W .gf ji-it N , . j 1V,, , ll. T After close to fifty years of direct involvement in the Way- land Public Schools, Mr. Bowers is retiring as our Athletic Direc- tor. The class of i987 is proud to dedicate our Reflector to this fine man. Mr. Bowers is a Wayland nat- ive who graduated from the Wayland Public Schools. He then attended Michigan State University, played professional baseball with the Philadelphia Phillies, and then returned to teach at Wayland High after retiring from baseball. He has worked at Wayland High School for 34 years as a physical edu- cation teacher, coach, Director of Physical Education, and most recently, Athletic Director. 4 Mr. Bowers coached baseball and basketball at Wayland High School for many years. His baseball teams were perennial state powerhouses with many state championships to their credit. ln basketball, his teams consistently qualified for the Eastern Massachusetts tourna- ments. Two of those years, they were Tech Tournament Champions. His knowledge of the game, coupled with his dedi- cation, helped him stand out as one of the most distinguished coaches in New England. Mr. Bowers has been the prime mover for many projects, developments, and advance- ments in Wayland. A modest person who is quick to hand out credit to others, he has been directly involved in establishing the Austin Hale Memorial Outdoor Basketball Court, and the Project Confidence program. Mr. Bowers also has developed the Wayland High school coed physical education program into a state recognized program of excellence, and the Wayland High School athletic program into a very healthy program recognized as one of the most comprehensive in New England. Baseball has been a true love of Mr.Bowers since he was a Boston Herald all state pitcher at Wayland High School, an all big lO star at Michigan State and a major leaguer with the Phillies in the early 5O's. For the past 20 years he has served as the head New England scout for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Mr. Bowers has dedicated much of his life scouting major league prospects, speaking at ban- quets, conducting try-out camps and helping young players develop their skills. A devoted family person father of four daughters, a lover of the outdoors, fisherman, skier, and a true friend among people, the class of l987 proudly dedicates our Reflector to you. Thanks for a job well done.

Well, the summer of '86 was one to remember, but not for its weather. Not even the rains or the cancellation ofthe Italy trip could stop WHS'ers from having fun this summer. WHS'ers were spot- ted traveling across the world to exotic lsrael, touring Europe with a team, or cruising the Carribean on a sloop. They were also work- ing as camp counselors, house painters, lite guards, waiters, and waitresses in such local hot spots as the Town Beach, Friendly's, Papa Gino's, Filene's Basement, and Marshall's Apothecary. Some journeyed to summer homes in Maine, New Hampshire, and the Cape. News events inclu- ded the celebration at the centen- nial of the Statue ot Liberty and the Goodwill Games. Whatever the summer months brought us, one thing can be agreed upon. The summer of '86 was one to re- member and we were sad to see it end. Keira Lorentzen, what did they do to you? The macho men-Eric Kattwinkel,Lonny Krasnow, Jason Soslow, Mark Herman, Mike Weiss, Grant Miller, Jim Reilly, Aaron Albright, and Nick Ross. Is it raining again? Two bathing beauties, Anu Rao and Beth McCabe. In l'Ql5Wf31m 6 . .., .4 A
