Located in the first office crammed with college brochures, newspaper artic es, wrestling magazines, pictures of his family and stu- dents, and a si n that reads I AM TOO BRJSY TO BE ORC-ANIZEDH is Eric Moyer, a man who wears many hats. Not only is he a concerned and compassionate guidance coun- selor and a competent and car- ing department head, but an exceptionally outstanding wrest in coach whose inspira- tion ang enthusiasm for the sport is infectious. Rick was born in Oneida, New York in 1939, the third son in a family of four boys, therefore, it is no surprise that he learned wrestlin naturall . He attended Eprin field gollege where he earnegboth a B.S. in physical education and a Bf.ED. in guidance and person- -l 9 Dedication nel. Rick was a member of the varsity wrestling team all four years and was elected team ca - tain and selected as an All- American during his career. Before comin to Wa land, he coached the Springfield Col- lege wrestlingl squad and taught and coac ed at Amity- ville Hi h School in Long Is- land, lgew York where he quickly gained the respect and admiration of his fellow coaches by developing a very successful wrestling program and winning tradition. During his first year at WHS, Rick tau ht P.E. and continued to coachiootball, wrestling and baseball. His abounding ener- gy, sense of humor, and unique ra port with young people en- abiled him to communicate equally well with athletes and students. Rick can be seen scurrying from class to class in the morn- ing during homeroom contact- ing students and showing a personal interest in their wel- are and progress. He has dis- played genuine sympathy in in- itiating and advising a Dying and Death support group as well as a concern for t e safety and well-being of teenagers bg being the advisor to the SAD program at WHS. On occasion 'ck has been invited to discuss these programs and help estab- lish them in other schools. De- dicated to helping young peo- ple, Rick atiently listens, understandls and offers en- couragement, tempered with firmness. He is respected amon his colleagues and peers, qnut most of all by the students he has helped over the years. - For all his outstanding con- tributions to the students of Wa land, the 1985 Reflector is dedicated to Coach Eric Moyer.
