...T .hw v-.. ,...-.. :gig hen peo le are asked to descrgme and char- acterize the plusses of Wayland High School, most bringl up the expertise of the facu ty and the quality of courses offered here, the en- thusiasm and motivation be- hind the clubs and organiza- tions, and the comradeshi of the sports teams. We eel, however, that an integral com- ponent of the school as been eft out -- the student body it- self. Were it not for the sheer energy of so many, the will and the drive to excel, and the sense of community that all share, much of what we prize in Way- land Hi h School would not exist. T e system was raised around us, full of potential and outer strength - but we have infused it with a life and a char- acter that alone can be called Wayland. All deserve credit for our continual pursuit of the ideal education. We set high standards for our Yearbook. In addition to a striking visual revolution, we sought a number of deeper, more fundamental improve- ments. We attempted to chronicle the si nificant, spe- cial events of 1584-1985: Mr. Srnith's Mass. Teacher of the Year Award, the conclusion of Dr. Goff's service, the installa- tion of lights on the football field. We attempted to follow the stories of this year: the re- surgence of the Student Coun- XL mn' - - Costello. ' -s ,Q1a. A -- to - - gggxhs' 1, M f--sr-'aa-f.' 4 . f V., s- - 'f..1n. :.i.-, -1' ,- 41 . Pine trees provide relaxing shade for i Debbie Harrington and Mike O'Connor. Taking a break from his studies, Doug Brooks socializes with his friend, Katy cil, the entrance of a new class of Freshmen, the Seniors' com- pletion of High School. Most importantly, we worked to cre- ate a souvenir of the life in these months, with personal in- terviews of students, sections about fads and parties, surveys, and lots of pictures Cand cap- tionsj of the students. Wayland High School has always striven for excellence - with this truth and our very theme in mind, we went about the task of writ- ini a Yearbook. The next 20 + pages will themselves convey a sense of our time together, combined with your memories, they will bring to life this unique year. Theme Imroductior. 0

Located in the first office crammed with college brochures, newspaper artic es, wrestling magazines, pictures of his family and stu- dents, and a si n that reads I AM TOO BRJSY TO BE ORC-ANIZEDH is Eric Moyer, a man who wears many hats. Not only is he a concerned and compassionate guidance coun- selor and a competent and car- ing department head, but an exceptionally outstanding wrest in coach whose inspira- tion ang enthusiasm for the sport is infectious. Rick was born in Oneida, New York in 1939, the third son in a family of four boys, therefore, it is no surprise that he learned wrestlin naturall .
