MASS. 017Q l-ley, you guys on the Reflector staff, what does one step at a time mean anyway? Well, its really quite simple. We feel that people should think less about the future. concentrate on the present moment, and make each day better than the next, ln short, as Horace would say, 'carpe diemf sieze the day. NE STEP AT A TIME 129- j I , li tri ,. 'x 'lit f., I 'ff' fl' 1 -.'-.ry ' . -JH. ' efffvfn 4 dxf '2 Tr' ral- Ra... The yearbook theme, ONE STEP AT A TIME, is thoughtful and filled with meaning. Each step is a moment of life's experience, a moment of opportunity met and used or a moment of opportunity lost. l believe the most important of life's opportunities is the enhancement of the human spirit. Each of us is responsible to the total society in which we live. Where we find violence and destruction, hunger and pain, it is our responsibility to speak out and help the situation. Where we find truth. beauty and caring we need to acknowledge it and by doing so, support it so that it will grow. ln his Nobel Prize lecture. Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn points out that hate, violence and destruction have their beginnings in lies against the human spirit. Such lies can only be preserved by force. When we allow lies to exist by our standing si- lence, we are harming ourselves as well as others. When we speak out against lies and the violence that accompanies lies we benefit ourselves and others. As each of us takes one step at a time through life's experiences it is important for us to look at our everyday relationships and our everyday behavior: it is important for us to become active messengers of truth and beauty so that the society we create daily is one of truth, beauty and caring. - Dr. Charles E. Goff. principal Every morning at 7:55. Mr. Stather's favorite phrase get to homeroom can be heard bellowing through the DEDICATIO 1 . O. In A .Q EnglishfMath building. For the past 4 years. that famil- iar cry has helped each member of the class of '84 start the school day off on the right foot. With out that cry, these students would be like sheep who've lost their shepherd, As well as guiding stranded students to home- room, Mr, Stather has also spent a great deal of time helping lost Calculus students find their way back on the track. He shows an honest concern for the student and his or her questions. l-le is always visible in the hall of the EnglishfMath building willing to listen to any gripe or complaint you might have. His hearty smile and optimis- tic advice are always what you need when you're down in the dumps. For these things and everything else you've done for the Class of '84 over the past four years, Doug Stather. thanks. The help and support which you have given us is greatly appreciated and it is with pleasure that we dedi- cate our edition of the Reflector yearbook to you. This year Joseph Franchi and Suzanne Hanna are Wayland's representatives. They meet monthly and discuss how proposed laws may affect the schools. RAC gives students a chance to comment and possibly influence laws or budget cuts which might affect our school system. The Student Advisory Board is the link between the students and the adminis- tration. The students meet with Dr. Goff and the School Committee to attempt to change the policies that create stu- dent complaint such as the class-rank system and the Walkman ban. RAC SAB lvlembersi S.
